Herring Roe on Kelp

Alaska Federation of Natives Convention 1999, Bering Sea Appreciation Parade.

Herring appreciate the Bering Sea.

A class of school children volunteered to wear the herring heads and the herring roe on kelp, a Native food. One of the children showed us how to do the traditional herring dance! Her grandmother had just taught her the night before. We all danced in the Town Square together.
