Name:"Cross"

This reliquary cross was found in Tiszaeszlár, North-East Hungary. Figure of Christ crucified and perhaps four evangelists can be seen on the surface. The facial features are schematic. Owned by Jósa András Museum of Nyíregyháza. The cross belongs to the so-called Holy Land variety, made in Byzantium during the 10-11th centuries.
Gesta has made some alterations as originally it was a reliquary cross made from two parts with two different ornaments. This pendant is only replica of the obverse. On the reverse originally is the Virgin Mary in a similar style. Sterling Silver, 0.925 fine.
