Sailor Moon is a Japanese cartoon drawn in the style known as Anime.It's creator is Naoko Takeuchi (Takeuchi Naoko in Japanese form), creator of the Sailor Moon Mangas. (Japanese Comic Books)A few years ago in 1994, DiC brought Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon to the US by dubbing (doing a voice-over) it in English. That action has given rise to a cult following in the US and around the world.

Some information about the original Japanese series- 18 volumes of manga, 200 eps, 4 specials, 3 movies, and more musicals than you can shake a stick at. ^_^ Good stuff, all of it.
