ST. ANTHONY, The Wonderworker

It is said that when Anthony was praying in his room, the Infant Jesus appeared to him, put His little arms around his neck, and kissed him. When Anthony became ill he went to a monastery outside of Padua, where he died at the age of thirty-six on June 13, 1231. Thirty-two years after his death his remains were brought back to Padua. All of the flesh except the tongue were corrupt.

The picture illustrates St. Augustine's Vision: While walking along the shore, he saw a child spooning water into a hole into the sand. The child explained that he was going to empty the sea into the hole. St. Augustine explained that it was impossible; the child answered that it was no more impossible than the effort of the saint to explain the Triune God.

ST. ANTHONY OF PADUA

O Holy St. Anthony, gentlest of Saints, your love for God and Charity for His creatures, made you worthy, when on earth, to possess miraculous powers. Miracles waited on your word, which you were ever ready to speak for those in trouble or anxiety. Encouraged by this thought, I implore of you to obtain for me (request). The answer to my prayer may require a miracle, even so, you are the Saint of Miracles. O gentle and loving St. Anthony, whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears of the Sweet Infant Jesus, who loved to be folded in your arms; and the gratitude of my heart will be ever yours. Amen
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.

St. Dymphna

Dymphna was fourteen when her mother died. Her father is said to have been afflicted with a mental illness, when his wife died. He sent messengers throughout all over the land to find a woman, who resembled his wife to marry him. None could be found. His advisers then advised him to marry his daughter. Dymphna fled from her castle. Her father found Dymphna and her companions in Belgium. He gave orders, to cut off the head of one of her companions, a priest. The father tried to get his daughter to return to Ireland with him. When she refused, he drew his sword and struck off her head. She was then only fifteen years-old. Dymphna died a martyr in defense of her purity in the year 620. She is the patron of those suffering from nervous and mental afflictions.
