Ann ( Everett ) CROSS of Wiltshire , daughter of a Quinton & Everett---More on this later, including old  town maps of Wiltshire town born & lived.
Likely daughter of David & Sarah of Ipswitch, Stoke Green Baptist , Suffolk, Eng. . Was only Ann Everett in proper time fram born, but should be treated with skepticism.

o One of his children was daughter Louisa Elizabeth (Cross) Barkwill, b. 1825. & also known as Gramma Palmer later in life.
  • Have photo of his daughter Louisa Cross, my direct ancester (later on life)
  • So the story goes: His daughter Louisa came over from England on a Sailing vessel when only 5 years old. This means he had a wife in England. Was her sister there also? Came via St, Lawrence River.
  • Ref. Jerry my have come to US in 1833, where did I get this? Possible from Louisa (1825-5) = 1820? Note, not if she was born in 1825??

  •  Lousia died 15 Sept. 1915.
    Jerry entered USA in 1833.

From Census of 1840. J. Cross ( assumed Jerry) in Cleveland had 8 people listed in his home and are as follows, one each:

    (1) Male 30-40- likely Jerry? Therefore born 1800-1810! (Fits 1805 date on 1840 census)

    (2) Male 10-15- poss. Jerry Jr.? " " 1825-1830! Not George ! Not Thomas ?

    (3) Male 5-10- Likely George? 1830-1835

    (4) Female 0-5 , 1835-1840 Likely Mary Ann !

    (5) Female 5-10 (b.1830-1835)- Could this be the to-be Gramma Palmer. If so, and the Louisa over to US at 5, would leave Gramma Palmer able to have a sister over at age 1, on boat, and still make this castegory! Gramma Palmer is: Mary C. Cross who married John N. Palmer 8 Sept. 1868 in DeWitt, Ill. from LDS IGI records.

    (6) Female 10-15 (1825-1830)- likely Louisa as she would have been 12. Likely of my line!

    (7) Female 30-40 (b.1800-1810)- Likely Jerry's wife?

    (8) ???

Census of 1850  The microfilm was very difficult to read in this part:
    East Cleveland, p. 298B:

J Cross, age 48, male, grocer, value of property owned: $2000, place of birth England
Ann, age 48, female, place of birth England
George, 18, male, place of birth England
Mary A., age 15, place of birth England
Eldane (this probably is not correct as it was very difficult to read-Poss. Elain ?), age 11 ( b. 1839) , female, place of birth Ohio
Lucy, age 5, female, place of birth Ohio
Albert, 2, male, place of birth Ohio

There is a "Jeremiah Cross" listed on page 462, 10th Ward in the 1870 census for Cuyahoga County.  I only own the rolls for Wards 4-7, so I can't look him up for you.
I own wards 4-12 of the 1880 census, but there was no Jeremiah listed in the index.

Joseph Bolt, his grandson, claimed Jerry had a Gold headed cane left with Joseph's 1st wife or sister Fern as well as Daguerrotype photo of him? I have several other period hand me down, relatives photos but no tracible matching names!

    * Poss birth records of children under 7 at 1840 period? See female 0-5 years.

Q- See Jeremiah Cross married to Martha Dyson, 1847 in Hocking, Ohio! Could this be Jerry Jr.? Not Sr. unless remarried. Sr. had young children in 1840!

    * Jeremiah Cross married to Ann Everett, 20 Nov., 1823 in Britford, Wiltshire, Eng.

Here's the text, from The Cleveland Plain Dealer, Monday, October 13, 1862: Fatal Accident in the Pittsburgh Railroad Yard

George Barkwill, a car repairer, in the employ of the Cleveland and Pittsburgh Railroad Company was almost instantly killed about nine o'clock this
morning, in the yard of the latter company, under the following circumstances: Mr. Barkwill was at work between a couple of cars near the Pittsburgh
Freight Depot, repairing the brake. While engaged in this task, a locomotive suddenly backed up against the car upon which he was at work, and
pushed the train to which it was attached, (consisting of three cars) suddenly together, catching Mr. B.'s neck between the "bumpers" of the car upon
which he was engaged, and the one at his back. The unfortunate man had sufficient strength left, after being struck, to crawl off from the track, when he
sank upon the ground and almost instantly expired.

This sad accident is owing entirely to the deceased's carelessness, in commencing to work between the cars, before he had displayed a red flag from
the end of the train - a rule which is universally observed among car repairers in the Pittsburgh yard.

Mr. Barkwill was about forty years of age, and had been in the employ of the Pittsburgh Company about two months and a half. He resided at corner
of Scoville and Perry street, and leaves a wife and two children. * Census data seen: 1850, see 1860, and poss. 1840?

Ohio that has extensive information on all of the families that lived there
since the founding of the township.  I have the book at home and will email
you the name of it tomorrow.

My great grandfather was Francis Peter Hickey who married Mabel Mary

The book I told you about is Historical Story Olmsted Township: Villages of
Olmsted Falls, North Olmsted, West View by Walter F. Holzworth, written in
1966.  There are no specific Asplin pages, but they are mentioned in
conjunction with the Hall family, specifically on page 51.

"Elizabeth Hall, a daughter of Joel and Millicent, was born October 4, 1863
and married Jacob Bauer December 25, 1888.  After Bauer's death she married
Charles Asplin.  They had no children."

"George Hall, son of Joel and Millicent, was born April 18, 1871 and married
Anna Asplin February 9,1893.  They had 6 children:  Warren, Gordon, Harold,
Alfred, Mrs. Ethel Warner, and Mrs. Evelyn Faber.  He was identified as
"Greenhouse George".  Along with his sons, Warren, Gordon, and Harold, he
engaged ina greenhouse business.  George Hall died while visiting in
Jeromesville, Ohio September 12, 1950 at the age of 79.  Mrs. George Hall
    died May 22, 1928."

    on page 50

"Donald Hall, a son of John and Minnie Robb Hall, married Flora Asplin.  He
was known as "Kink Hall" a truck gardener at the big bend on Kennedy Ridge.
His children were Dorothy and Donald."

The slaughter house was actually owned by Arthur Hall and burned down in
    1952.

Sorry for the delay in returning this information to you.

Oops, also forgot to include this paragraph on page 51

"Frank Hall, son of Joel and Millicent, was born October 2, 1864 and married
Elizabeth Asplin October 10, 1888.  They had 4 children:  Arthur, who
married Martha Surman, Robert married Berth Cook, Russell married Beatrice
Terrell, and Stella married Dean Webster.  Frank Hall's farm was on Cook
Road where he farmed and raised cattle, and started a slaughter house.  His
son, Arthur, who married Martha Surman, was identified as Art Hall, the
Butcher.  He built the business of raising and feeding of steers, sheep,
hogs, and ths laughter house into a highly successful wholesale meat
processing and distributing business.  His sons, Florian and Irving, carried
on the business after his death.  Arthur Hall had one daughter, Josephine
    who married Mr. Madak."

So as you can see, the Hall's and Asplin's had a lot of fun at family
reunions, considering that 3/4 of the family was married to each other.
