...RX-7 Stock Harness and Connectors (information only)...
'93-'95 RX-7 Harness connections...

The connector descriptions listed here are the '93-'95 style that are typically square or rectangular in shape.
This section is provided for information and identification purposes only.

Emissions Harness... this harness is located on the passenger side of the engine compartment. It contains wires between the rotary engine's ECU to the rotary's injectors and ECU sensors. This harness will be removed when performing an engine swap, but some of it's connectors may be salvaged for later use.
Engine Harness... this harness is located on the driver's side of the engine compartment. It contains wires to the rotary engine's battery cables, ignition system, starter, alternator, oil pressure sender, transmission switches, dash gauges, and various warning sensors. This harness is no longer needed, but it contains some connectors which should be salvaged for later use.
Front Harness... this harness is the main harness for the front of the RX-7. It's basic job is to connect all the other sub harnesses in the front to the rest of the car. It comes thru the firewall on the extreme driver's side of the firewall, and runs forward to the radiator support to the relay rack (under the plastic cover in front of the radiator), and across to the horns, the coolant level sensor (in the top of the RX-7 radiator), headlites, front parking lites, etc.

Connector X-01...is main fusible link junction block located and bolted directly to the original RX-7 battery's "+" terminal. In all, 9 wires leave this junction block...
...black...1 wire only...comes directly from battery "+" terminal, does not pass thru any fusible links.
...black w/ white stripe...5 wires...4 wires come from the 20A "MAIN" link. 1 wire comes from the 30A "RETRACTOR" link.
...white w/ green stripe...1 wire only...comes from the 30A "EGI" link.
...red...1 wire only...comes from the 30A "HEAD" link.
...blue w/ black stripe...1 wire only...comes from the 40A "B2" link.

Connector X-02...RX-7 "relay and fuse block". Mounted on the front side of the 3rd gen RX-7's driver's side strut tower. This contains the "FUEL PUMP RELAY" and the "EGI MAIN RELAY".

Connector X-05...this is a rectangular "blue" 2 row 10 wire connector (1 row of 4, 1 row of 6) between the "front" and "emission" harness, located in the passenger footwell area. Notice the different configuration for the cars originally equipped with automatic transmissions...

MANUAL TRANS...

AUTOMATIC TRANS...

Connector X-11...this is a small "grey" square 4 wire connector between the "front" and "engine" harness, located near the battery in front of the shock tower.

Connector X-12...this is a large rectangular "grey" 4 row 12 wire connector (4 parallel rows of 3 w/ 1 wire missing)between the "front" and "engine" harness, located just ahead of the driver's side shock tower.

...blue...this wire went to the rotary engine's oil level sensor.
...grey w/ red stripe...this wire went to the rotary engine's oil pressure sending unit.
...brown w/ white stripe...this wire went to the RX-7's coolant level sending unit located in the RX-7's top radiator tank. Grounding this wire will silence the RX-7's coolant level warning "beep".

Connector X-14...located under the dash on the passenger footwell area, it's the white connector up behind the RX-7's blower motor near where the emissions harness passes thru the firewall. Beware of wire colors here, as many of the wires change colors as they pass thru X-14. There are also differences between the manual and automatic versions. The colors listed below are in referance to the "emissions" harness half of the connector, commonly used if you are fabricating a jumper harness from the salvaged "emissions" harness half of the connector.
...MANUAL TRANS- X-14 is a rectangular "white" 2 row 12 wire connector (1 row of 5, 1 row of 7, 2 wires missing) between the "emissions" and "dash" harness.

...AUTO TRANS- X-14 is a rectangular "white" 2 row 16 wire connector (1 row of 7, 1 row of 9, 2 wires missing) between the "emissions" and "dash" harness.

...green (manual cars) or green w/ black stripe (automatic cars)...this wire went to the signal side of the RX-7's VSS sending unit, which was located in the driver's side of the RX-7 transmission's tailhousing. If you are tracing the dash harness half of this X-14 connector, this wire changes to yellow w/ red stripe.
...orange (manual cars) or blue (automatic cars)...this wire went to the ground side of the RX-7's VSS sending unit, which was located in the driver's side of the RX-7 transmission's tailhousing. If you are tracing the dash harness half of this X-14 connector, these wires change to yellow w/ white stripe.
...yellow w/ white stripe...this wire went to the rotary engine's water temp sending unit. If you are tracing the dash harness half of this connector, this wire changes to grey.
...black wire w/ red stripe (manual cars) or yellow w/ blue stripe (automatic cars)... comes from 15a fuse in underdash fusebox. This is the power source for the back-up lites. If you are tracing the dash harness half of this connector, these wires change to black w/ yellow stripe.
...yellow w/ red stripe (manual cars) or brown w/ blue stripe (automatic cars)... goes directly to the back-up lites. If you are tracing the dash harness half of this connector, these wires change to red.
...black wire (manual cars only)...this large gauge wire needs to be grounded to BOTH the chassis AND to the engine. If you are tracing the dash harness half of this connector, this wire changes to black w/ blue stripe. In the automatic cars, this circuit (black wire) goes thru RX-7 connector X-05.

Connector X-24...this is a rectangular 2 row 8 wire connector (1 row of 5, 1 row of 3, 3 wires missing) between the "rear" and "fuel pump" harness.

Connector B1-01 plugs...these (4) connectors are located behind the right side kick panel in the passenger compartment. They were formerly arranged in a row along the front side of the RX-7's ECU, which is now removed. The wire locations and color code are shown in the illustrations below. The yellow highlighted wire locations are the ones that we will be either modifing or connecting to the LS1's PCM. The IDs of the highlited wire locations are listed below the illustrations. The non-highlited wires are no longer needed, and we will not be connecting them to anything.

1A is a 10 amp fused constant 12v source into the ECU.
1B is a 12v source that is switched on thru the main EGI relay with the ignition switch.
1K is the lead that the RX-7's ECU grounded to bypass the fuel pump resistor at high boost levels.
1L the RX-7's ECU grounded this terminal to energize the A/C relay (the ECU opened this circuit during cranking and rapid acceleration to drop out the A/C).
1M speed sensor signal from the RX-7's instrument cluster (3E).
1N is the wire from the power steering pressure switch (pressure in the PS closes the switch, and told the RX-7's ECU to increase idle speed). Also connected to the RX-7's 20,000 mile switch.
1Q comes from the clutch switch (depressing the clutch pedal grounds this terminal, and told the RX-7's ECU to increase idle speed). Also goes to the cruise control (depressing the clutch causes the cruise control to drop out).
1S comes from the stoplite switch.
1T is the lead that the RX-7's ECU grounded to energize the circuit opening relay, which activates the RX-7's fuel pump.

2B is the signal wire for the RX-7s tach.
2I comes from the heat hazard sensor for the cat converter overheat warning lite.

3D is the wire that the RX-7's ECU grounded to activate the cooling fan relays, resulting in the "low" speed mode (activates fan relay #2 & #4 by grounding their "B" terminals).
3H is connected to the RX-7's purge solenoid.

4A is connected chassis ground.
4B is connected chassis ground.
4C is connected chassis ground.
All other wires are rotary specific, and are not used. They went to the engine harness, and were used to control solenoids and relays for the rotary's engine management system.
