GRATEFUL   DEAD'S   WALL   OF   SOUND

The Grateful Dead's Wall of Sound was literally a wall of speakers. It was a wall of 641 speakers, it was 3 stories high, and it weighed 23 tons. And though it cost the Dead $100,000 a month to keep it, it also cranked out 26,400 watts of magnificent sound. But after their last shows in 1974, the Dead dismantled and gave away most of the wall, which gave sound systems to many up and coming bands.

SOME   PERSONAL   EXPERIENCES,      FEELINGS,   EMOTIONS,   &   OTHER   PERSONAL   STUFF

The Grateful Dead played at the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival, and they have considered it one of their worst shows. Part of the stage had fallen in and the PA System quit.

During the making of the album American Beauty, Phil Lesh's father passed away, as well as Jerry Garcia's mother.

In 1973, Pig Pen died at the age of 27. It was an emotional thing for the Dead as they stopped playing the songs that Pig Pen had played or sung.

They got to experience Monterey Pop... from the stage. They had a set between The Who and Jimi Hendrix.

Experienced LSD and other psychedelic drugs while playing music at Ken Kesey's and His Merry Pranksters Acid Tests in the 60's.

The Dead never played one song the same way twice.

Jerry Garcia's real name was Jerome John Garcia. His parents named him after musician Jerome Kern.

Jerry got his first guitar at age 15 for his birthday.

Jerry, Bill K., and Bob W. had a band called Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions. Later it turned into the Warlocks.
