what is mkr?
you will see it all over the page (probably 'cause this page is all about the best character on the show!).
But what is "mkr"?

MKR IS......
mkr is a shortened verison of the title of a japense manga/anime called "Magic Knight Rayearth".
THE PLOT......
mkr is about three school girls who go to three different high schools in tokyo,All their schools go on a trip
to visit tokyo tower (I need to shorten the story here so I'll make it brief).They are all there in their school
groups,A flash of light sends everyone running to the window,Except the three girls who dissapear!
They end up in another world,There they see a fish-like-griffin,They all introduce themselves as
hikaru is very short for her age of 14 and has short red hair done in a plait,She is very loyal and kindhearted,
fuu is very smart and quiet and has bobbed golden,curly hair with a brown head band,
and umi has long straight blue hair a blue head band,She is very rude and arrogant.
as the griffin hovers around they see a child dressed in sacred robes,Umi tells him to get lost but Hikaru
says the child cannot do any harm and he is alowed to stay,The three girls are desperate to go back
home to tokyo,the child introduces himself as Master Clef and says that they cannot return home.

The girls are distraught and want to return,But Clef says they may only return once they fulfil the legend
of the magic knights,awaken the mashin and save this world,Cefiro.Umi is enraged by the way this child
speaks,So she grabs him (being the tallest of all of them) and tries to attack him,She says that
children shouldn't speak like that.Clef hits her with his large stick and says he is really a 745 year old wizard
and Umi should watch who she is talking to! Clef transfers the power of the magic fire onto Hikaru and
gives each girl some special armour from inside his robes (Umi remarks "I hope you are not doing
something hentai!"*)beforethe evil Sol Zagato's
(the priest who has captured cefiro's princess emeraude,the child who prays for the
world's survival) Hechwoman Alycone attacks along with a few youma (monster).Clef sends the three girls
on another mythical beast to the forest of silence before he fights Alycone,His former student.
(Yes,former student.Clef is Cefiro's best wizard and most knowledgeable citizen)
Sadly Clef is turned to stone,But this is not revealed for a long time.
The whole plot continues as the girls find their powers and new friends (Mokona, the rabbit through which
clef communicates orders and demonstrates powers.Presea the woman who creates the best and most
interesting of all weapons in cefiro using just her mind.And Ferio the boy whom the magic knights tricked
into being their bodyguard!)and many enemies before finding the mashin
(mashin are the huge robot-warriors,one for each girl -
Rayearth for Hikaru
Seles (or Ceres) for Umi
and
Windam for Fuu )
There were two seasons of mkr on televison,the first season went for 20 episodes the second went for 29
episodes,there were also three (?) ova seasons that,like mosy ovas are completely unrelated to
the original (in the mkr ova clef is like 20-something!!!).
The manga went for 3 books for each season.
WHY IS MKR SO POPULAR?
One of the apparent reasons is the use of such a weird theme (in japenese terms anyway),
The theme is one similar to a fairy story or medieval folk tale.
The story of warriors,swordsmen,dying princess,evil priests,wizards and mythical beats.
This magical girl or shojuo series is different to others in that genere,
It isn't like sailormoon or the wedding peach (those girls fight for love,justice and the universe's survival)
whereas the girls in mkr fight to save another bizzare world from total destruction using magic.
Probably the other main reason for mkr's popularity is it's diverse characters I mean look at these,
blunt,but true-ish descriptions written by my friend Sailor Cork-Dove:
hikaru - small,naieve,simple girl who fights with her heart not her head
(loves the big weird guy lantis)
fuu - miss priss mommy's-girl,nerdy,medium-height who fights with her head not her heart
(loves the young guy ferio)
umi - mean,bithcy,arrogant,tall fights with neither her heart or head but with her anger
(could love the paranoid,weird,old midget wizard clef)
(they are just Cork-Doves' opinions btw)
whatever the reason,mkr is a great and interesting manga/anime by the wonderful stars at CLAMP!
