While several versions of Kate's past are in circulation, the exact truth about her history is unknown. Kate has stated in interviews that she worked as an internet publiscist and web-designer before joining the band. However, in her autobiography, I, Halleus, Halle devotes an entire chapter to her discovery of Kate living as a street urchin on the streets of New Orleans. "I cleaned her up and gave her a spot in my band. She'd still be eating out of garbage cans and tap-dancing for quarters if it wasn't for me," Halle writes. Although Kate did earn a degree from Tulane University at about the same time she was alledgedly living on the street, Halle stands by her version of events.

As mysterious as Kate's past is, Katie's is even mroe elusive. Very little is known about Katie's life before she joined up with the Rent Boys during their early pub days. Various sources cite her birthplace as Paris, Vietnam, or Carbondale, Illinois.

Jen Stoy was a latecomer to the band, joining after founding member Stuart Beckham died of a brain aneurism. Her history with the band has been a turbulent one, and she has been kicked out no fewer than 1,236 times. As the band was in the studio recording the song "Superstar" for their first album, Halle kicked Jen out six times for the offense of "lookin' at me funny". Rumor has it that, if you listen to "Superstar" very closely, you will hear the sound of Jen's weeping. It is perhaps because of this stress that Jen had to enter rehab weeks later, after being arrested for public drunkeness following the consumption of a thimblefull of vodka. (As a Mormon, Jen has a notoriously low tolerance for alcohol. On one occasion, she had to have her stomach pumped after drinking half of a wine cooler.)

A birth certificate unearthed in Franklin County claims that Halle was born in Columbus, Ohio. However, in I, Halleus, Halle gives this account of her birth: "I sprang forth from the forehead of Zeus, King of the Gods, fully grown and prepared to accept by destiny as the greatest glam-rock band leader of all time." When questioned about this discrepancy in interviews, Halle has been known to shout "Foolish mortal! Do you dare question me?" whole beating the offending reporter with a septer she keeps handy for such occasions.
