What're E-zines?
The e-zine, zines produced on the web, hold an ambiguous stance. We could
enter in all the convolutions of thought, categorizations, delimiters, and
more Big Words through which we can argue the functions and merits of the
e-zine. Let's not.
Why Am I Doing This?
I'm doing this because I have an e-zine, and I spent some time looking for
other e-zines who write stuff that I like, because maybe more than I enjoy
writing (and I'm not ashamed of that), I enjoy reading what other people
have to say (read: other people are much more interesting than me; I know
enough about me to make me boring). So I want to find these e-zines,
congratulate them, admonish (lightly) those which could do better, and
provide a resource to people out there who are on similar searches.
Why E-zines?
Well, frankly, I want to know what people write when they
aren't being paid for their words. I want to read people's "bad" poetry
and fiction because that's what they (are trying to) say and what they
(are trying to) feel, and they feel that way strongly enough that they
will put the effort to publish or be published. I want to read what the
anarchist, the militant, the angry kid, and the goth are saying. I want
to read what Joe thinks about the newest videos. I want to read what
Tiffany thinks about her unacademic interest in Foucault. I haven't found
much of this stuff, but I'm still searching. I know it's out there to
be read, or to be written. This is important stuff.

My Criteria
I usually term myself a laid-back guy; recently a few of my closest friends
have pointed out that sometimes I'm fooling myself. There are a (small)
number of things that I'm really anal about. One of these is design.
I want thin, clean web-pages. I hate big graphics. I hate irrelevant
backgrounds that make text unreadable. I hate typos. I want consistent
attitude. All in all, I want e-zines that people care about. These
are my criteria. (To see the plank in my own eye, I am guilty for a
number of these things, too.) If you look for the same, stick with me,
kid. Let's go cool places together.
