Cady was born and raised in southern California. She began her career at the age of nine, with the popular commercial, I Am Stuck on Band-Aids.

Prior to AMC, Cady performed on "Cheers", "St. Elsewhere", "Lou Grant", "Spenser: For Hire", and "One Big Family". She can be seen in "Who Will Love My Children?", "Robert Kennedy and His Times", and "Just a Regular Kid". She also appeared in the feature films "My favorite Year" , "Pennies from Heaven" and "Simply Justice".

Cady joined the cast of All My Children in October 1988, as the sweet and naive Dixie Cooney. She won an Emmy Award for her portrayal of Dixie in 1990, a Soap Opera Digest Award for Best Heroine, and she and Michael won Soap Opera Update's MVP award for best couple in 1994.
