Killing At Tennyson

On last Saterday about dusk a serious affray occured at Tennyson on the Air-Line railroad, nine miles east of this place and in this county. It appears that Samuel Garrison, son of Joseph Garrison, with some others came to town and got to drinking and finally raised a racket in the saloon of Joseph Whittaker, who promptly ejected them. Soon afterwards Garrison returned loaded with brickbats and attacked the premises, one brick hitting Whittaker and inflicting a severe wound upon his face and head, whereupon he secured a revolver and fired two shots upon Garrison, one of which entered the right side and passed through the body to the heart killing him instantly. The preliminary trial and inquest was held before Esq. St.Clair the investigation occuping two days, and resulted in a verdict of a bond of $500 binding the defendant over to the next term of court in December. Garrison was about 24 years of age and unmarried. The general opinion expressed is that Whittaker was justifiable and acted in self defense.
