TORONTO

November 2001 was another month we didn't travel much except a few visits to neighboring Toronto. I am just in awe of this Big City every time I see the skyline. So naturally I had to show my family the sites. They came to Canada for Thanksgiving, only it wasn't the holiday here. Thanksgiving in Canada is celebrated around the second Monday of October. I guess the pilgrams got lost and ended up in Canada first. hehehe Actually it's just a day of Thanks for the harvest. And a 20 lb turkey in Canada cost close to $50. That's why everytime I go back to the states, I try to bring back my border limit of 1 turkey (I got a 22 lb. turkey for $7 back in PA)

In the year 2000, you didn't have to go far to see a decorated Moose on the streets of Toronto. They were later auctioned off, and I did spot a few of them at a cottage in the 1000 Islands.

Things to see in Toronto

Skydome: *****Home of the Blue Jays. View the game under the open sky (weather permitting) or from the Hardrock cafe, or even from your own hotel room overlooking the field.
CN Tower: *****One of the seven wonders of the modern world, the CN tower is the largest free-standing building. We can see it from our town 30 miles away.

CNE - Canadian National Exhibition: *****The Ex, as most Canadians call it, is like a huge worlds fair. This usually takes place the last 3 weeks of August ending up on Labor day.
Ontario Place: *****A huge water park with rides, concerts and don't miss the Cinesphere, the huge IMAX theater.. All located on Lake Ontario
St. Lawrence Market: *****This Place is huge, so plan on spending the day here. One whole building is just a farmers market, and the other has a few floors of everything! Meats, Cheese, Seafood, Gifts, Snacks, etc!
Redpath Sugar Museum: n/r I spend many hours at my mother-in-laws just watching the ships unload the sugar. I'll just have to find a weekday to visit the museum someday! It looks interesting!
Movenpick -2nd floor has OTB and fine cuban cigars.. What a Treat!!!!: *****Great place, I can't wait to try the food, but its so hard to find a good place that allows smoking anymore in Toronto, and the atmosphere in this place is just fantastic!!!

Taking the government called GO Train into the city is the best way to avoid all the traffic on the 401. It's about $10 per person for a round trip from Pickering. You also get a nice view of Lake Ontario.

Once we decided to take a rick-shaw, which is a fun way to see the city.

Town & Country Buffet is one place in Toronto that we visit quite often. The center area of the restaurant is home to their famous market fresh buffet, with a beef brisket carving station and yorkshire pudding. The seating area is made up of attached train cars which make up private rooms. Its very cozy and the food is good too! They have a fabulous ice cream bar and dessert bar, with creme d'carmel, which I have never tried until my visit here. There is a large salad bar with shrimp. They also have a very good house wine, which we enjoy by the carafe. There is another location in Mississauga, but we have never tried that location. Be sure to try Town & Country, as you won't go away hungry!
