Netherlands triumph in Women's World Student's Handball (5 Sep. 1998)
Eleven teams participated in the 3rd Women Students Hanball World Championships held recently in Wroclaw, Poland. The competition was dominated by the strong team from the Netherlands, where the Women's European Championships will be held this December. In the final the Dutch women beat Romania 31-27, while the Czech Republic secured place three by winning 21-19 against France. The Polish hosts had to content themselves with an unsatisfactory ninth place.
Nastasja Burgers (the Netherlands) was elected the best player of the tournament. The best goalkeeper was named as Silke Christiansen, of Germany. The most successful goalgetter, Carmen Amarei from Romania, scored 67 goals in six games.
