06 JAN 99: Women's world championships: Ten more places to be determined
During the past weekend some more places for the 1999 Women’s World Championships in Norway (and Denmark) were played out on two continents. At the European Championships in the Netherlands Hungary, Austria, Poland and Germany ended up in places three to six and thus qualified directly for the title matches in Scandinavia (European Champion Norway and runner-up Denmark had already been determined as participants). The Asian continent will be represented at the WC by Korea, China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Japan. These teams ended up in places one to four at the Asian Games in Bangkok, Thailand, which counted as WC qualifiers.
Thus 14 out of 24 participants in the 1999 Women’s World Championships have been determined so far. The current situation presents itself as follows:

Europe: Hungary, Austria, Poland, Germany (another seven European places will be played out in qualifying tournaments between January and March 1999)
