07 JAN 99: Men's world championships: Performance rows fixed
After all participants in the Men’s World Championships to be held in Egypt from 1 to 15 June 1999 have been determined, the IHF Commission of Organizing and Competition (COC) fixed the performance rows which will be taken as the basis for the draw of the preliminary round games of the title matches. They are as follows:

1 Russia Sweden Spain Germany
2 Yugoslavia Tunisia Hungary Korea
/ Saudi Arabia*
3 France Croatia Denmark Egypt
4 Norway Cuba Saudi Arabia
/ Korea*
Algeria
5 Fyro Macedonia Nigeria China
/ Kuwait*
Argentina
6 Australia Kuwait
/ China*
Morocco Brazil

(*As the Asian representatives have been determined in separate – West and East Asian - qualifiers, the performance places 1-2 and 3-4 will be fixed by the IHF at a later date.)
Within the performance rows the teams will be allocated to groups A, B, C or D. Performance rows 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 will be drawn first. The organiser Egypt, who is in the third performance row, will then have the right to chose one of the groups thus drawn before the three other teams in performance row 3 will be allocated to the remaining groups.
The draw will be carried out by COC President Peter Mühlematter (SUI) in Cairo on 27 January 1999. All further details concerning the draw will be announced soon by the organizer, the Egyptian Handball Federation.
