Back after 36 years...
Field handball was first played
at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, when the Germany team, true to its
reputation as the favourite, won the gold medal. Contested by 16 male teams,
the first Olympic indoor tournament was played in Munich 36 years later,
in 1972. In Montreal (1976) women's teams appearance, for first time, in
Olympic tournament.
