- .....World famous performer Brian Littrell of the Backstreet Boys was
treated at St. Joseph's Hospital as a child. To show his gratitude as well as his
geniune concern for the children Brian created the Health Heart Club & Fund
For Kids. In 1998 Brian personally donated his own money and gifts he recieved
from fans around the world to start the Fund. In May 1998, when Brian had his
much-publicized open heart surgery, he made it a point to tell his fans that
if they wanted to send him a gift to please make it a gift to his fund. That way
their gifts could help other kids with heart disease and other health problems.
The response was overwhelming and we recieved tons of mail, including small
sacrificial gifts, from kids around the world. Many of Brian's fans sent teddy bears,
mail, photos and cards which were passed along to his mom, Mrs. Littrell.
Mrs. Littrell then released a statement saying "Please tell his fans that what
Brian really wants is for them to help him help other kids by giving to
the Fund." The work of Brian Littrell's Fund Oversight Committee has really
begun to pay off in 1999. The Committee is in the process of designing an
innovative program of education, rehabilitation, exercise and motivation
for children ages 6-16 who have congenital heart problems or are at risk
of developing heart problems. The program will begin in the Fall of 1999
on Saturdays at St. Joseph's Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. The program will include
kids from the greater Lexington area as well as those from rural areas.
If you'd like to make a donation to The Brian Littrell Fund you can do so by
