First Aid Scenario #1

Team 1

[Scenario #1] images/hs_20031108_doe_award/thumbnails/hs_20031108_doe_award_02.JPG (125x80) 12693 bytes [Scenario #1] images/hs_20031108_doe_award/thumbnails/hs_20031108_doe_award_03.JPG (125x80) 10943 bytes [Scenario #1] images/hs_20031108_doe_award/thumbnails/hs_20031108_doe_award_04.JPG (125x80) 11893 bytes [Scenario #1] images/hs_20031108_doe_award/thumbnails/hs_20031108_doe_award_05.JPG (125x80) 12482 bytes

#1: Casualty who has fallen from a chair while fixing a light fitting. She is practically unconscious, responding only to pain. Her lower right leg has sustained an open fracture - the bone is protruding and there is a bleeding wound.

First Aiders must protect her airway by rolling her into the recovery position, control the bleeding, treat her for shock, steady and support the fracture, and try to make her warm and comfortable until the ambulance they called for arrives.

First Aid Scenario #2

Team 2

[Scenario #2] images/hs_20031108_doe_award/thumbnails/hs_20031108_doe_award_06.JPG (125x80) 13655 bytes [Scenario #2] images/hs_20031108_doe_award/thumbnails/hs_20031108_doe_award_07.JPG (125x80) 11481 bytes [Scenario #2] images/hs_20031108_doe_award/thumbnails/hs_20031108_doe_award_08.JPG (125x80) 11419 bytes [Scenario #2] images/hs_20031108_doe_award/thumbnails/hs_20031108_doe_award_09.JPG (125x80) 12396 bytes

#2: Casualty who has an open wound containing an embedded object, e.g. a shard of glass. She is fully alert and able to answers questions about what has happened.

First aiders must stem/control the blood escaping from the wound without disturbing the object embedded within, treat her for shock by raising the legs, and try to make her warm and comfortable until the ambulance they called for arrives.

First Aid Scenario #3

Team 3

[Scenario #3] images/hs_20031108_doe_award/thumbnails/hs_20031108_doe_award_10.JPG (125x80) 11392 bytes [Scenario #3] images/hs_20031108_doe_award/thumbnails/hs_20031108_doe_award_11.JPG (125x80) 11536 bytes

#3: Casualty who has an large wound on their left forearm. She is fully alert and able to answers questions about what has happened. With such a lot of bleeding, casualty may well faint at any time and may well be laid down in anticipation.

First aiders must stem/control the blood escaping from the wound, treat her for shock, and try to make her warm and comfortable until the ambulance they called for arrives.
