Updated: 02/24/00

Blindside are an awesome band from Sweden mix a modern metal approach with hardcore influences, coming up with a unique sound that is all their own. With passionate lyrics and driving musical passages, Blindside is a band that makes a definite impression on all who chose to listen. We recently conducted an e-mail interview with one of the Blindside gang

Highwire Daze: Introduce yourself and tell me what you do in Blindside.

Simon: Simon - guitar & backup vocals.

HD: Describe the music of Blindside to someone who has never heard it before.

Simon: Hard for me to describe but people say we're somewhere between hardcore and "newmetal" but I'm not sure..

HD: Where is the band from and what is the music scene like there?

Simon: We're from Stockholm (capitols of Sweden) and the music scene here is really good, lots of great bands.

HD: What are some of the songs on the new Blindside CD about?

Simon: There's a theme that's stretches from darkness towards the light from a spiritual perspective. It starts off with a pretty dark song about hiding up in the dark (King of the closet) and not wanting to take resposibility for your own actions.. to hide in the dark and pretend that there are no problem since it often feels easier than admitting your problems and deal with them. Through the theme a sollution is found when you turn your eyes to God.

HD: Since you are on a Christian label, how much does Christianity influence your music?

Simon: We're totally influenced by our beliefs since it's the biggest passion in our lifes. Our lyrics are about lifesituations and deals with relations to other people and everything around us. It's written from a personal perspective and I think anyone can relate to our lyrics, Christian or not.

HD: What do you say to non-Christians who are really into your music?

Simon: Great, of course.. we never intented to make music as entertainment for Christians. We never knew there was a christian music industry even. We just do our thing and hope that as many as possible can enjoy our music.

HD: What is a live Blindside show like to those of us who have yet to see you live?

Simon: We try to put as much energy into the liveshow as possible. The audience is as important to the show as the band since we feed of eachother all the time.

HD: Any chance of Blindside playing here in the States any time soon?

Simon: Yes, we're hoping to tour the states soon but it's always a lot of things to work out with working permits, visas and of course to find a tour. We ain't got a booking agent or anything but I'm sure we'll show up eventually. As soon as we know anything we'll post it on our webpage.

HD: What do you think of the Black Metal scene that is so popular in your area right now?

Simon: I wouldn't say it's that popular, it's more of a rumour I think. Just cause there's a lot of good bands in that genre from here and Norway. It's really underground and I don't really know that much about it.

HD: If there was one thing you'd like someone to remember after hearing your music, what would it be?

Simon: Well, we're just happy to hear when people get in a good mood after hearing our music, also if we can get the message across it's an amazing feeling.

HD: What was your favorite CD of 1999 and why?

Simon: Well.. personally I'm really impressed by a band like Slipknot musically.. they've got the energy, groove and still it's soo heavy. I can't agree with their lyrics though.

HD: What are some of the stranger habits your band mates have and what might they say about you?

Simon: I don't know.. since I've been around them for such along time nothing surprises me really.. I'm sure we all got wacked habits.. so I better not say anything..

HD: What are the future plans for Blindside?

Simon: Well.. things are going great over here in Sweden and also the rest of Europe is opening up for us, so we'll try to tour here as much as possible and do festival gigs. Also of course, we plan to tour the states, probably this summer. Things happen quick, but we try to let everyone else know as soon as we get the info.
