A MASTERPISS OF KHOLD

Khold perform old school Black Metal in the grand tradition of Darkthrone and Satyricon - the pure Norwegian kind! Their second album has just been released in the States and it's a terrifying slab of extreme terror. Crucial questions were asked about the music, the current Black Metal scene, and fast food. Read on for this Masterpiss of an interview...

Highwire Daze: Introduce yourself, tell me what you do in Khold, and how long the band has been together.

Sarke: I am Sarke the drummer of Khold! Khold started up in 2000!

HD: Where do you get the ideas for some of the song lyrics found on Phantom?

Sarke: I just make music the way I want it to sound! I get my inspiration from a lot of things. Pictures, lyrics, music, nature, movies and more. It's always dark things!

HD: What do you think has made Khold stand apart from other Black Metal bands?

Sarke: We sound different, very heavy and have a lot of groove. We combine the old black metal feeling with a new sound!

HD: Have you performed a lot of live shows, and if so, what has the reactions been so far?

Sarke: Yes we have done a lot of gigs and the reaction has been very good! Hope we can do a U.S tour soon so people can see and hear themselves.

HD: How did you wind up being signed to Moonfog?

Sarke: I was at the Moonfog office for some other reason. I met Satyr and gave him our demo. Some weeks later he called me up and told me he liked it!

HD: How do you think Phantom compares to the first CD.

Sarke: It's a stronger and more dark! I'm pleased with both albums.

HD: Prior to Khold, were you or any of the other members involved with any other bands? Any side projects going on now?

Sarke: No, Khold full time!

HD: Where did you come up with the strange title for the first album Masterpiss Of Pain? Have you had any strange reactions from people who have heard that title?

Sarke: Yes of course, some like it some not. We play very brutal filthy music and masterpiece sounds more like nice art, therefore we use piss instead. Piss means more than urine as you know as an American.

HD: What do you think of the state of the Norwegian Black Metal scene today?

Sarke: It's very good I guess. Lot of good bands. Norway has the best black metal scene in the world as I know.

HD: Where were you and what did you think when the church burnings were going on in Norway?

Sarke: I guess I was in Norway. It's just some metal people burning down some churches. It made headlines in the news. Maybe they think it was cool or fun or something. For me it was no different, I don't care.

HD: Are there any McDonalds or Burger Kings or Pizza Huts in Norway? Do you ever go there?

Sarke: It's everywhere! No so much in Norway but when I am on tour I eat there sometimes. Except for Pizza Hut, I have never been there, but I have been to Rema 1000, have you?

HD: Any chance of Khold coming over to the States to perform live?

Sarke: I hope so! Book us a good tour and we will come.

HD: Do you agree with me that Britney Spears is the total goddess of all mankind?

Sarke: Do you think so? Of course not but I can tell everyone that you think so! If I could f*ck her and her mam at the same time.... maybe…

HD: What are the future plans for Khold?

Sarke: First up its festivals and then a European tour I guess and then some more tours I hope (with Satyricon).

HD: Do you have any messages for Khold fans or those who might be interested in checking out your CD?

Sarke: Go to www.khold.com and get a taste! If you like simple dark music with raw vocal, Khold is your band!

Phantom and Masterpiss Of Pain by Khold may be ordered through The End Records here in the States!
