Rubric Review Sheet for Language A
Content and Organization
  1. Re-read or listen to your piece again.
  2. Evaluate your piece in terms of Content and Organization.
  3. Highlight or underline the specific language which describes your piece.  It’s ok to highlight language from different levels, i.e., 9-level thesis but 6-level voice.
  4. In the spaces provided for Evidence , refer to the items you highlighted which prove that the piece has reached the level you say it has for each of the categories.  Develop a notation system to refer to your paper (i.e., “see 1 for my thesis, see 2 for my first piece of evidence”, etc.)

  • Work demonstrates a perceptive understanding of the topic, has a clear thesis and a variety of supporting details. 
  • Creative writing uses show-not-tell strategies to depict setting and character which come alive in the reader’s imagination. 
  • Voice reflects a passion for the topic and an original viewpoint.
  • Work is consistently well-organized, clear, and coherent. 
  • Arguments are perceptive and persuasive. 
  • Structure and transitions demonstrate an awareness of developing and substantiating ideas. 
  • Critical conventions (quotations, sources) are used in a sophisticated manner.

  •  Work demonstrates a good understanding of the topic, has a clear thesis and supporting details. 
  • I employed some show-not-tell writing into my creative piece. 
  • Voice comes through clearly but is somewhat clinical (dull, i.e., “In this essay I will discuss”, etc.)
  • Work is usually well-organized, clear, and coherent. 
  • Arguments are thoughtful and logica. 
  • Structure and transitions help to develop ideas. 
  • Attention is paid to critical conventions where appropriate

  • Work has a clear thesis but lacks sufficient supporting details. 
  • Creative writing tends more towards telling about details rather than showing them. 
  • Voice  is inappropriate for a formal piece. 
  • Work is generally well-organized, clear, and coherent. 
  • Arguments are presented logically. 
  • Structure and transitions are apparent

  • Work lacks a clear thesis and supporting details. 
  • Creative piece lacks detail. 
  • Voice does not come through at all in this piece.
  • Work is generally disorganized and confused. 
  • Arguments are not presented in a logical manner. 
  • Structure and transitions are weak.
