Beethoven The Master Symphonist
I chose Ludwig van Beethoven because I
found him quite interesting. He was a symphonist and was known as THE
Master Symphonist to many people. He was an excellent musician and
was so very talented, yet he was not popular until later after his death.
Early Life
Beethoven was born in Bonn, Germany in 1770.
His father was an alcoholic and his mother died suddenly when he was 17.
He was very talented at playing the piano, organ, and violin. After all
of the chaos with his parents he was compelled to leave home and
travel to Vienna to study composition.
The Big Event
Beethoven did not perform in public till
he was about 25 years old. It is hard to believe, but while Beethoven was
alive he was not very popular at all. People did not pay attention to him.
Tthey thought that he was a weird man. Beethoven's music didn't really
become popular until later after his death.
How the world was changed
Beethoven was a master symphonist,
THE master symphonist in the eyes of many musicians and composers. He slaved
over each composition to produce perfection.
Much of Beethoven's music can
be interpreted to reflect his interest in the struggle for personal
and political freedom. This struggle is clear in his opera Fidelo,
The Ninth "Choral" Symphony, and also in abstract music such
as the Fifth Symphony.
Much of Beethoven's music is
still listened to today. Musicians and composers still study his
pieces and wonder why a master symphonist went his whole life without being
noticed as one.
In the End
Early in the 19th Century, as his
career was reaching the top, he began to notice he was growing deaf. By
1820 he was completely deaf. Seven years later he died, in furious emotional
pain and resentment for the power that had ripped away his ability
to enjoy his own genius.
Beethoven's last works were ahead
of their time and still challenge scholars and listeners.
By creating this web page I have
learned a lot about Beethoven that I did not know before. This assignment
was difficult and frustrating at times and at other times it was quite
interesting like when I would find information about Beethoven that
I never even heard about before.
