Wright Brothers: They changed the world.

I love to fly and I was curious about the two famous men who helped make this dream of many people a reality.  Then I thought I would write a little about them and show the world. I hope you enjoy it!

Early Life
The Wright brothers were first intrigued by flight at a young age  when their father gave them a toy helicopter. They wanted to fly like the birds.  Little did they know they would help make that possible.

When the brothers were 18&22 they opened their own printing business. Orville dropped out of high school to do this. Wilbur didn't even finish high school. They made their printing press out of damaged tombstone and buggy parts. They brothers printed odd jobs and their own newspaper. In 1892 Orville and Wilbur fixed bicycles for friend and a year later opened up their own bicycle repair shop. Three years later they built their bike called Van Cleves and St. Clairs.

Wilbur read about the death of a famous German glider pilot. He became very intrigued about this and on May 30,1899 he wrote to the Smithsonian Institution for information on flight.

The Big Event
August 1900, Wilbur built his first glider. He chose a far away sandy area off the coast of North Carolina named Kitty Hawk, where winds average about 13 mph. The next year they tested a new glider with the wing span of 22 feet. This was a disapproving performance it prompted the brothers to make a wind tunnel to test the effectiveness of the variety of wing shapes. A year later they built a new glider with  the wind tunnel, it was successful it glided 620 feet. After that they brothers went back to Dayton to work on an engine and propellers.

Wilbur and Orville designed the propeller and their own 4-speed 12 horsepower engine. They built in sections in the back of their bicycle shop. When they were finished it was shipped to Kitty Hawk and assembled. On December 17, 1903 Wilbur tried to fly the machine but it stalled on the take off. Then the brothers flipped a coin to determine who would fly next. Orville won the toss and made history. At 10:35 a.m. it flew. It lasted 12 seconds and flew 120 feet.

How The World Changed
The Wright brothers helped changed the world. They helped make the world fly like the birds. They had this vision and helped make it come true. I'm thankful for that or else I'd have to drive with my family to New Mexico and probably kill them. So thank you.

In The End
Wilbur Wright died May 30, 1912 at the age of 45. He died of typhoid. Orville died January 30, 1948 at the age of 77. These two brothers accomplished a very great thing and they will be remembered and recognized forever.
