From the first time I heard Marvin Gaye's music I loved it. I always wanted to learn more about him, and I think other people do to that is why I built this page.
"early life"
Marvin Gaye was born April 2, 1939. He moved to Chicago and met the
Moonglows, they first recorded for Chess Records in 1959. Later they
moved to Detroit where Marvin met Berry Gordy Jr., with Gordy's help Marvin
started recording for Motown in 1961. When Marvin Gay first started
recording for Motown he added an "e" to his last name. He later was
married to Anna Gordy, Berry Gordy's daughter. Gaye was known for
using his personal experiences to write some of his most memorable music.
Gaye's marriage to Anna started to breakdown, leading to their divorce.
Gaye then married Janice Hunter, and had two kids, Frankie and Nona Gaye.
"The big Event"
Gaye wrote many songs. One of his most succesful
(and my personal favorite) songs is "Sexual Healing" it won him two grammy
awards in 1982. In 1971 he released the album Whats Going On?
it focused on the Vietnam war and enviromental issues. This Album
really made people open there eyes to what was really going on in the world.
"How the World was Changed"
"...Marvin Gaye was a
man who saw the social value of putting our pain and suffering in music."
" In the End"
Though Gaye had many
problems he still made incredible music, he first moved to Hawaii where
he recorded his last Motown album In our Lifetime? And later
moved to Europe. Marvin Gaye died in 1984 after a conflict with his
father ended with a gun shot killing Marvin Gaye. Although he is
gone he will always be remembered. He is the most succesful man in
Motown records.
This project was a
little hard. It's not that easy to find much information about Gaye because
almost every website has the same information about Marvin Gaye.
It was fun to be able to create my own website. I was happy to learn
more about Gaye. It was very interisting to find out the way he died,
I researched many websites and only one gave that information. If
I had to do it again I would try to find more information and write more.
