Perfume Shopping

By Wendy

It was the end of July and Wendy’s birthday was coming up, so her brothers decided to go get her a present.  They ventured out into the hot end-of-July heat to get her perfume, which they knew she liked.

The six Koopalings soon arrived at a perfume store, because they had decided that Wendy liked perfume, and her birthday was in a few weeks because it was the end of July.  The Koopa Kids looked around, read labels, and sniffed the perfume.

Larry found a bottle marked ‘Eau de Hortes’.  “Hey, Ludwig!” he called.  “Come translate this label for me!”

Ludwig hurried over.  He peered at the bottle.  “It says ‘Smell of a Garden’,” he said.

Larry sniffed the perfume.  “I like it,” he smiled.

Lemmy called Ludwig over to see a bottle labeled ‘Eau de Joie’.  Ludwig told him that the name meant ‘Smell of Happy Things.’

Next Ludwig translated a label that Iggy had found, ‘Eau de Gimnasiomme’, as ‘Smell of a Gym.’  He also helped Morton, who had chosen a bottle by its name, which happened to be ‘Eau de Longes Speiche’.  Ludwig informed him that it meant ‘Smell of a Yellow Rose in Lebanon at 12:42 AM on April 17.’

Roy, having no interest in perfume at all, closed his eyes and picked a bottle off the shelf.  Ludwig interpreted the label, which read ‘Eau de Homme Sloppe’, as ‘Smell of a Dirty and Sweaty Man.’

“I like it,” said Roy, taking a whiff of the Eau de Homme Sloppe.

Finally Ludwig got a chance to examine the bottles himself.  After a lengthy search, he was sure he had found exactly what Wendy wanted.

He held up the bottle for his brothers to see.  “Eau de Cologne,” he said proudly.  “Smell of Perfume.”

The brothers cheered approvingly until Lemmy said, “Come on, guys.  We need to find something that smells like Wendy.  That will be the kind she likes to wear.”

Larry got a far-away look in his eyes.  “Wendy smells like...moonlit water in the summertime, and a quiet spring day in a garden, and a brisk fall breeze that’s refreshing but not too cool, and...”

“Shut up,” said Roy.  “Wendy smells like tantrums, and cooties, and yucky girl stuff.”

“You mean this?” asked Iggy, holding up a bottle marked ‘Eau de Complaine, Couties, et Thingies de Femme Ew’.

The brothers laughed but convinced Iggy and Roy to put back the bottle.  Then all six commenced to scour the store for something that smelled like Wendy.  Finally, Lemmy came rolling through the store shouting for his brothers and victoriously waving a bottle of perfume.  All six took a whiff and agreed that it smelled exactly like Wendy.

Two weeks later, Wendy unwrapped a small package beautifully wrapped and tied with a pink ribbon.  She gasped when she saw the little glass bottle filled with a yellowish liquid.

“How did you know I like this kind?” she asked, smiling.

“Just a guess,” Ludwig replied, shrugging.

Wendy ran to her room to put on the perfume.  Her brothers had gotten her ‘Eau de Wende’, ‘Smell of Wendy’.
