- San Roque and Hagakhak
Rock Formations.Basilisa, Dinagat
Island. Nature carved
rock formations thatresembles a melting candle, a duck and an eagle. Those
who fancy cliff hanging and rock climbing will surely enjoy scaling these
formations.
- Gen. Luna Beach.
Siargao Island . A
bewitching 27 kilometer stretch of sugar white beaches, sapphire blue seas
and natural coral barrier that keep the inlet waters placid. At high tide,
tube- like waves from the Pacfic Ocean can be heard and seen. A perfect
destination for surfing during the months of November
to January and island-hopping adventure during
March to June.
- Mainit Lake.
Mainit,Surigao del Norte. A 17,000
hectare lake in between the provinces of Agusan del Norte and Surigao del
Norte. During Summer, purplish bloom of water hyacints and wild ducks abound
its periphery.
- Suhoton Cave.
Bucas Grande Island. A natural
wonder half-submerged in water most of the time and accessible only during
low tide. Inside is a lagoon with countless islets and crystal clear waters
that catches the reflection of the penetrating rays of the sun. Lush vegetation
abounds its periphery.
- Buenavista Cave.
Hikdop Island,Surigao City. A
three kilometer cave with three entrances. On its womb is a knee deep pool
and a palatial chamber complete with a "kings" throne. Located
near sitio Pagkawasan of Barangay Buenavista. approximately four miles
from the city proper it has three entrances which all lead to a cavern
cavern approximately 3 kms in length Unique stone formations inside the
cave create an illusionary vision of a majestic " Kings Court"
complete with other chambers. It has also an underground pool which is
knee deep and is about 100 meters from the main entrance. Like the Mapawa
Caves, it has also impressive stalactites and stalagmites which bare witness
to the fact that nature is still the foremost sculptor.
- Mapawa Cave. Barangay
MIpawa. It is approximately 15 km. away from the city
proper. It has cathedral shape inner domes richly decorated with magnificient
stalactites having like natural chandeliers banaced by an enthralling sight
of varied stalagmites.
- Magpupungko Beach.
Pilar,Siargao Island. Situated
in a cove facing the Pacific, surrounded by limestone and granites sculptures.
During lowtide, its pockmarked limestone floor reveal "swimming pools"
of assorted shapes and sizes resembling basins, barrels, tubs and ponds.
- Togonan Waterfalls.
Mainit, Surigao del Norte.
- U.S. Landing Avenue. Loreto,
Surigao del Norte. A strategic area in the municipality
of Loreto where U.S. Liberators landed and fought against the Japanese
Imperial Army stationed in the place. A few miles from the island in Surigao
Strait, the historical Landmark where hundred of Japanese naval ships were
defeated due to massive bombardment by U.S. planes in World War II.
- Mother of Perpetual Help Shrine Ceniza
Heights. built by the devotees of said Patron, the shrine
itself is surrounded with green natural scenic landscaping. it can be seen
clearly while trekking the heights of the Beverly Hills of Surigao-Quano
Ceniza Heights Subdivision, Approximately one and a half kilometers away
from the city proper.
- Century OLd Replica of the Liberty Bell.
Capitol site.
- Capitol Site. An old American
designed capitol building which has been renovated recently.
- Del Carmen Crocodile Sanctuary. Del
Carmen,Surigao del Norte. It is the home of the biggest
crocodiles in the country. These crocodiles can usually be found on its
vast preserved mangrove forest.
- Bitaugan "Magic" Whirlpools.
These maelstroms are found during ebb tide. They have a chracteristic
behaviour to pull, twirl, and suck into their vertices anything that comes
near them. They are called "magic whirlpool" due to their peculiar
behaviour to appear and disappear at certain nature designated time intervals.
Locally called Pahibhongan their appearances usually followed by an almost
inaudible explosions and then the subsequent disappearance, after the "
explosions" their vertices vanish, after sometime, it would again
appear. This is a cycle. The whirlpool is a scenic beauty to behold with
its enthralling spinning water. The current that creates the whirlpool
is so strong that the area is considered a danger zone to seafarers.
- Day_asan Floating Barangay. The
Venice of Surigao City. Here houses are built along shallow
water lanes amidst carefully selected mangrove clearings. It has water
channels, instead of roads, and small bancas or river boats instead of
wheeled vehicles. Purok centers, where local folks congregate to discuss
issues or conduct meetings are located in the midst of the waterways. They
are all circular in shape and have "salakot" type roofings. Day-asan
is about two miles from the city proper.
- Guyam Island. Across the General
Luna Beach is an islet with a powdery-white sand and a little cluster of
coconut trees. It can be reached by a pumpboat in less than 10 minutes.
It offers a good view of the spell bounding waves of Siargao Island. A
few meters away from the island, one can go surfing and water sports activities.
- Daku Island. A wonderful island
adjacent to Guyam Island which is about 5 minutes pumpboat ride. It is
an ideal location for swimming, snorkelling, and sunbathing.
- Punta Kalabera.
Catadman. located at the northeastern portion
of Hikdop Island . It is a beautiful naturally sculptured skull stone formation
which local folks call Punta Kalabera . Near or at a distance it looks
like a skull of a man. This has been formes as a result of a continous
lashing and splashing of the waves.
- Punta Baluarte. Barangay
San Jose. a historical landmark which was used as observatory
point by the Spanish Friars and later by the Japanese during the second
World War. A place where Fr. Francisco de Paulas
Sanchez, S.J. stayed for more than a month on scientific expedition
on April 24, 1887 collecting rare marine fauna. It is a hill overlooking
the town and the surrounding waters and islands, which to date is simply
marked by maroon castle replica. Complementing the landmark is the brightly
colored kiosks along the beach which provide an ideal picnic and resting
area. Punta Baluarte is in Barangay San Jose, about one hour ride by pumpboat
from the city proper.
- Mancagangi Island. Tourist can
go Bat Watching in this island. Thousands
of mouselike flying mammals commonly called BATS
are clinging or hanging on wild plants, trees and rocks. Others
are dwelling in caves of Mancagani Island which
is 2 miles east of Tandag. Going there will
take you 40 -45 minutes by pumpboat.
- Ipil Beach Resorts. White pebble
beach of clear sea water alongside heavy laden coconut trees. This partially
developed by the Surigao City Lion's Club
and approximately 10 kms. away from the city proper. It is accesible both
by land and sea transportation. Ipil Beach Recreation
Center is equipped with bathroom dressing room facilities and recreation
center suited for small beach parties.
- Zaragosa Rock Formation. Sibaldo
Island. It has a unique dagger-edge structures about
20 ft. high occupying an area approximately one hectare in size, almost
surrounded by waist-deep crystal clear sea waters. Beside this sleeping
dagger-shaped rocks are thick corral reef which is really one of the best
spots for snorkelling and scuba diving. Adjacent to this are two fine white
beaches which are excellent sites both for swimmers and beach combers.
In the olden days, bodies of cholera and small fox victims of the adjoining
barangays are dumbed on this area to rot. This is locally called Sangatan
adjacent to this attraction is a big solitary rock island known as Tamulayag,
where trees grow although it has no soil. At a distance, it looks like
gigantic floating flower base.
- Lisondra Rock Formation.
Barangay Lisondra. It is exquisitely carved
with unique rock formations and is known as the burial ground by its early
inhabitants . Rock islet best defined by the ranges of its unique natural
rock formations, solidly and concretely enhances by the different variations
and contrasts of its colors and shades. Opposite is another isolated vase-like
rock formation complementing this somewhat mysterious creation of nature.
It is accessible by pump boat in 10 minutes from Surigao City proper.
- Danawan Beach . Danawan
Island. Is an island resort in Danawan Island, just
accross Hikdop Island going west. It's white beach is so rich in rare sea
shells. Shell afficionados often go there to collect rarities.
- Sabang Beach Resort. It is a
kilometer long sprawling black sand beach that has shallow waters up to
400 meters from the shore. This is partially developed and along the seaside
portion of PCUM Subdivision in the city proper.
- Basul Island. located nortwest
of the city and the nearest islet from Surigao City characterized by fine
white sand on one side and rugged rocky shore on the other side. It is
noted for its enticing white beaches richly interpolated by empty sshells
casing and fine corals. LIke a sentry of the entrance of the Surigao Channel,
this can be easily spotted from a ship approaching the City. As the northwest
direction of this island can be seen the Surigao
Strait ( Site of the famous naval battle of
Surigao Strait ) which took place on October 24, 1944, between
the fleet of Admiral Oldendorf of the
US Sevent Fleet and that of Admiral
Nishimura of the Japanese Imperial
Navy.
- Dinayhugan Beach. Barangay
Nonoc. Rich with marine resources. Dinayhugan Beach
is ideal for swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving.
- Mabua Beach Resort. This beach
adjacent to Ipil Beach forms an arc that extends to a length of about three
kilometers ot Ipil Ipil Beach aside from fine white pebbles which isits
dominant feature , it has also rock formations which serve as natural diving
boards for swimmers. Alongside is a precipice which is nice and challenging
place for amateur mountain climbers. It has several private cottages built
underneath dense coconut trees which could be used for a minimal fees.
- Panomboyom Beach. Barangay
Baybay. It is located in the southern tip of Hikdop
Island. It is known for its fine white beaches grossly dominated by fine
coral rocks which has been splashed by the waves to the shore.
- Raza Island. Even without developing
the area, it is already in itself an attraction in this island, one can
witness the fascinating and simultaneous interplay of both high and low
tides; low tide on one side of the island and high tide on the other. Every
Six (6) hours the tride reverses its course. No wonder then, it is a common
sight to see people picking up sea shells along one side of the shore and
continue doing so on the other side as the tide reverses.
- Miwa Beach. The beach with its
gray, fine sand offers a beautiful view of the sunset. It is situated within
the city and can be reached by a tricycle in less than 20 minutes.
- Sta. Monica Waterfalls. A gentle
burst of falling water amid the tranquility of a virginal forest. This
well preserved natural environment is another come-on
- Buyho Waterfalls. Barangay
San Jose. The cascading waterfalls from a height of
approximately 70 feet and comes from a natural pool like reservoir which
is the covering point of the uphill creeks and springs. Water drops to
an almost flat stone surface at the base and then flows a ledge about 6
meters wide underneath a succession of shady trees. It is 15 meters away
from the barangay proper. It can be reached by a paddle boat or motorized
boat in 5 to 10 minutes.
- Sto. Niņo Shrine. Barangay Bad-asay.
The 16th century old
image of Sto Niņo which was handed over from the previous
generations of the Sembrano's Chapel
at the barangay proper. Every year, the image is brought to Cebu to participate
in the Sinulog Festival
- Mainit Lake . This pear-shaped
lake engulfs the municipalities of Mainit and Alegria. At
a certain season one can admire the purplish blooms of water hyacinths
and lilies. Its placid waters is a sanctuary of thousands of wild ducks.
This 17,340 hectares of freshwater is the fourth largest lake in the Philippines.
- Lake Bababu. located
between Puerto Princesa and Melgar in Basilisa, This
mountain lake is a sight to behold. The steep vertical inclines add thrill
to an avid adventurer. Lush vegetation dominates the virginal periphery.
- Maharlika Beach Resort.
Lipata. A beach with grayish fine sand,
situated 10 kms. Northeast of Surigao City proper. It offers a panoramic
view of the City's coastline. It is one of the most popular convention
centers in Caraga Region. Floating cottages, fresh sea foods are the special
feautres of the resort. While staying in the resort, one can go for swimming,boating,snorkelling
and fishing.

Zaragoza. Strategically located on the mountain top
of Zaragoza Island which is alaso facing the ocean. Bahay
Turista is the best palce for vacation and commune with nature.

can accomodate tourists while in the island.
- Mapawa Cave. Barangay
Mapawa. It is a 30 minutes trek from Barangay Mapawa
proper . Its attractions are the small entrances leading to the big chambers.
- Silop Multi-Caves. Barangay
Silop. A unique cave with 12 entrances. One of its passages
has a cool, crystal spring water. It is artistically carved by nature with
stalagmites ,stalactites and columns. It is approximately 7 kms. from the
city proper. It is accessible by jeepney, cars and a single motorcycle.
- Manjagao Mangrove Forest. Barangay
Manjagao. The cradle of marine life and sanctuary of
various species of fish, the mangrove forest is one of nature's most interesting
habitat. A boat ride along the naturally-carved water channels amidst the
jade-colored lush of mangrove trees and the visible rich coral undergrowth,
is an island tropical treat one rarely experience. While there , one can
also go for snorkelling and collecting shells and other marine life.
- Pig-ot Hide-away resort. Municipality
of Libjo. A heaven placed on earth. It is a cluster
of islets that look like broken emeralds slap on the acquamarine surface
of the water. The islets are connected with a wooden bridge and as one
strolls, he will be a witness of the different acquatic species gliding
and hiding in the coral reefs, This is indeed heavenly crafted especially
for the adventurous, leisure seekers and nature lovers.
- Antiasay San Pedro Bridge. Surigao's
version of the famous San Juanico Bridge, this wooden footbridge is one
of the countries longest at 391 meters, Originally conceived to ease movement
and communication between Sibale and Nonoc Island, the bridge through time
has transformed itself into a resting and promenade area, giving one the
exhilirating experience and thrill of crossing two islands on foot. While
crossing the bridge, one can feel the cool sea breeze and at the same time
view the clear sea water and corals.
- Sukailang Waterfalls. Barangay
Sukailang. A cascading 50 feet waterfalls which is 20
meters away from the barangay proper. It can be reached by a tricycle in
30 minutes from the city proper.
- Sagisi Island Beach. A tropical
island paradise of three kilometers stretch of white sand beaches, deep
blue sea waters and cool shades provided by its lofty coconut trees. Sagisi
offers the perfect hideaway to enjoy the sun, the sand and the sea. The
island's coral reef teeming with lushly preserves marine life also provides
enthusiasts one of the excellent diving sites ever known in the Philippines.
Sagisi is accesible by paddled bancas or motorized boats in about 45 minutes
to one (1) hour from the city proper.

SURIGAO CITY,2ND WEEK OF SEPTEMBER.
A day long festival marking the annual city fiesta celebration.
The main feature is the Bonok-Bonok
, an ethnic Mamanua Dance performed by the natives during "Kahimonan"
(Fiesta) workshop and wedding ceremonies. A prelude to the celebration
of the Maradjao-Karadjao Festival is the Bulawanong
Barangay. Before the Bonok-Bonok festivity is held, preliminary contest
between the 22 barangays of Surigao City is ongoing to accentuate the month
long festivity that livens up to the household of respective family of
Surigao City. Other activities are street dancing particiapted in by different
private and government contingents using creative costumes, huge floats
and hilarious chanting .
