hockeygirl goes to Canada.
The trip posed to be a challenge. Having fallen to
stomach flu a few days prior to departure, it was uncertain whether I would
make the trip at all. By Thursday, it seemed that the virus had run it’s
course (or so I thought) and I made my way to Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
The first day was fun. The weather was lovely, a sunny
60 plus degrees F with a new blanket of snow to boot. My traveling partner
and I peeled off our winter layers and tooled around town for a bit, but by
evening the virus seemed to take on a new face and I spent the night at the
local hospital hooked up to an I.V.! That night, Canada proved to have
wonderful health facilities! I wanted to move there straight away…
Game time!
Day two was spent recuperating from my ordeal. Instant
chicken noodle soup with crackers and Gatorade played a major role in my
tournament survival but it wasn’t enough to save me from the agony of
our back-to-back games on day three. Immediately after our third loss, we
raved the night away with the locals at the tournament’s Saturday night
bash. It was a wild party complete with dinner, dancing, games and a
stripper…. loads of family fun! By now, my virus had gone (I left it
out on the ice) and was replaced by cranberry flavored hard
lemonade…mmmmm!
Playoff Game!
We felt lucky in our whites
and it seemed enough to ward off the hangovers that plagued us. My line mate
handed me a bottle of magic energy drink. I drank it slowly and later
experienced super-powers during our playoff game. We won the game 5-3! I got 2 3rd
assists…….Yay!
The next few hours were
spent taking a mad rush through snowy Calgary, sightseeing, shopping and all,
before catching the evening flight home. The weather switched from a bright,
sunny spring day to dreary, slushy rain with flurries and temperatures that
dipped down to the 30’s…I was glad to have packed a winter
outfit, but the freezing rain was a little harsh for sightseeing.
Can’t wait for next
year…!
