THE BEATLES ON GOD

God is in everything, God is in the space between us. God is in the table in front of you. ~PAUL McCARTNEY, 1967

My life belongs to the Lord Krishna now. I'm just the servant of Krishna. I've never been so humble in all my life, and I feel great! ~GEORGE HARRISON, 1974

You're just left with yourself all the time, whatever you do anyway. You've got to get down to your own God in your own temple. It's all down to you mate. ~JOHN LENNON, 1969

It is one of our perennial problems, whether there is actually a God. From the Hindu point of view each soul is divine. All religions are branches of one big tree. It doesn't matter what you call Him as long as you call. Just as cinematic images appear to be real but are only combinations of light and shade, so is the universal variety a delusion. The plantery spheres, with their countless forms of life, are naught but figures in a cosmic motion picture. One's values are profoundly changed when he is finally convinced that creation is only a vast motion picture; and that not in, but beyond, lies his own ultimate reality. ~GEORGE HARRISON, 1973

I won't go to funerals because I don't believe in them. I believe your soul has gone by the time you get into the limo. She or he's up there or whatever it is, I can't wait to go half the time. ~RINGO STARR, 1980

With life and all I've been through, I do have a belief in goodness, a good spirit. I think what people have done with religion is personified good and evil, so good's become God with "o" out and evil's become Devil with a "d" added. That's my theory of religion. ~PAUL McCARTNEY, 1989

I keep [my religious beliefs] to myself unless somebody askas me about it. But I still feel the same as I felt back in the sixties. I lost touch with the Krishnas when Prabhupada died. I used to go and see the old master, A.C. Bhaktivedanta, quite a lot. He was real good. I'm still involved, but it's something which is more a thing you do inside yourself. You don't actually do it in the road. It's a way of just trying to get in touch with yourself. I still write songs with [Krishna] in there in little bits and pieces. Lots of songs that are unfinished say various things, but maybe I say it in different ways now. There's a song [on Cloud Nine] which is straight out of Yogananda, "Fish on the Sand" it's called. ~GEORGE HARRISON, 1990
