Disclaimer:

Autolycus' intestinal tract was well lubricated and, consequently, was not harmed or blocked during the production of this motion picture.

Commentary:

Supposedly the Hercules version of "A Day in the Life". However, Hercules tells this to Iolaus 2 in a flashback about the typical day with Hercules and the recently deceased Iolaus. Another okay comedy ("For Those of You Just Joining Us" is still the best comedy of the season). The three intriguing points of this episode are:

Otherwise, it's standard comedy fare. An example is Hercules and Iolaus having a rock throwing contest; an obvious precursor to Michael Jordan's and Larry Bird's "nothing but net" contests in old McDonald's commercials. (You have to see it to believe it.)

Hercules: Hercules is still trying to help Iolaus 2's depression in this episode. To help, he tells about a typical day with Iolaus, showing that Iolaus had faults as well. This tale includes the level of musicality that Hercules possesses. I mentioned about the lute-into-electric guitar gig that Hercules does midway through the show. It was alright, but seemed a little out of place. The girls running after Hercules pretty much relates to music stars in the real world who are mobbed whenever possible. Action of the episode: Hercules puts on a rock concert using a two dinar lute.

Iolaus 2/Iolaus: Herc's new partner is still overcoming a bout of depression from comparing himself to the "old" Iolaus. He is very unlike Iolaus, as he is becoming an accomplished inventor (prototypes of the lighter and glasses), as well as being able to cook (joke). When Iolaus 2 stands in front of Iolaus' memorial, Iolaus 2 admits his weaknesses and hopes that he can be Hercules' partner as much as he could. This shows that Iolaus 2 still feels that he has a future with Hercules. And the "real" Iolaus in the flashbacks iis quite overstuffed with pride. His little rock competition ends up with the rock hitting him between the eyes. Iolaus does invent one thing: the Heimlich Manuver, which saves Autolycus' life. Line of the episode: (Iolaus starts doing sit-ups while Hercules takes his morning jog.) Iolaus: "1, 2, 3." (Iolaus stops, goes back to sleep, hears Hercules returning, and gets back in position.) Iolaus: "498, 499, 500."

Autolycus: We see another side to the "King of Thieves" in this episode. Whenever faced by the possibility of death, Autolycus tries to make the rest of his time as sin-free as possible, but ends up with less than spectacular results. Case in point: Autolycus enters a hospice, talks to a dying old man, and ends up with his name on the old man's will. To get to this state requires drastic measures to dissolve Autolycus' inflated ego. Case number two: the "King of Thieves" finally becomes convinced of the curse he's under when lighting strikes a building. And when harm's out of the way, he's back to normal. Line of the episode: Autolycus: "There's no such thing as a curse!" (Lightning strikes the town hospice.)
