SACRED HERB CHURCH

Boulder, Colorado USA

The really real Ganja church for the Twenty-First Century

According to the Founding Father: Reverend Mike Domangue

Welcome, we hope you will find something useful and uplifting here. We use and promote Marijuana as Holy Sacrament and God-given medicine. Although we have not yet received legal recognition through the courts for our Constitutional, and lawful use of this herb, we continue to speak our truth in any meaningful arena.

In 1993, Congress passed, and Bill Clinton signed the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. This corrected and provided protection so that Native Americans would be free to use the herb peyote as a central act of their spiritual expression. The law was written as a broad protection of religious experience though, and goes far beyond the single act of peyote use.

This law states - Government shall not burden a persons's exercise of religion, except when it is in furtherance of a "compelling government interest", and that the offending legal position is "the least restrictive means" of furthering that compelling government interest. This covers "laws neutral to religion" and "rules of general applicability" which burden free exercise of religion, including ALL federal and state laws. It also provides for individual expression apart from a group like a church, as the law affirms "a person's" exercise of religion. I believe the requirement in a court of law is "a firm belief" in a stated practice of religion. Will get the case for you soon.

We have tried confronting the law in court, but we provided a less than optimum possession case. We lost on appeal, and let that particular case drop so we could start again with a complete and competent case. Folks all over America have been trying this law to fight for the truth of their freedom, but most courts have said (including our case) that pot-smokers are merely practicing politics, and not religion. Also, some cases were for large amounts which confused the issue in the court, to include trafficking for profit. But even in single joint cases, the court denies our intent, and then are able to deny our rights. They have declared war against us, and have raised the practice of scapegoating to a national pastime and all-around profitable experience. But we'll get into the "War On Drugs" at another time.

Copies of this law, "Religious Freedom Restoration Act", are available in the mail order section of this page, as well as a small information packet, with what might be useful fliers for your own efforts toward legalization. All mail orders, must be accompanied with a check or money order, as we will NOT be doing C.O.D. orders. Make check payable to HTMM-ULC.

Knowledge is power, and truth defines that power. One person speaking solid truth in an honest court, can shake the criminal justice industry to it's roots. We hope that, at least, some will continue this necessary struggle. As our government denies true science of Marijuana, they cling desperately to empty rhetoric and positions of lies. But we need to know the truth of it ourselves, that unless we speak those truths on our own behalf, it will not be said. Stoners are notoriously uninvolved in most political action in America. So, it was a piece of cake to separate alternative culture away from the main population, and to blame us for much, if not all, that is wrong with America.

If we don't speak up, our truth will not be said. They are attempting to felonize as many as they can who are alternative culture in America. If we allow this to continue, there will be no possibility of vote or reply against the Police-State, or the growing Church-State. Both of these power manifestations seek to meddle in our private lives, even in our on home. These are thought police attempting to restrict brain chemistry and thought processes through threats of imprisonment and and human recycling through government approved drug rehabilitation programs, known as behavior modification programs.

We must ask, in an advanced, developed, modern nation like America, why are free thought and individuality such threatening behaviors? Why is conformity so highly prized when the only goal possible is rampant mediocrity? This position is rooted in fear and ignorance.

Laws have been provided since America was born, allowing us the freedom to follow our own chosen path. We are not burdened with any personal obligation to live the lives of sheep. Politically correct thought lives in fear of being challenged, and seeks to protect itself from any unsettling ideas which might threaten to disturb the social Thorazine we call proper citizenship.

MARIJUANA AS HOLY SACRAMENT

There are about a third of the planet who use Marijuana (Cannabis) as either Holy Sacrament, or God-given natural medicine, or as the safest herbal recreational mind experience available on the planet. Western culture pretends superiority over Oriental, Eurasian, or African cultures as they are seen as undeveloped, perhaps primitive and ignorant. They also lack the good sense to pack their bags, because the Church, and a few pretenders to official thrones, are ready to take them on a guilt trip over their supposed lack of good morals. These same moralists who seek to determine the social direction of whole nations, stand ready to steal our freedom from us in the name of the law, no matter that lies and superstition are the basis of Marijuana laws. But that's enough raging for now, we came to talk about sacrament!

How many experiences in our society provide opportunity for a solid act of sharing, and communication on a (possibly) intimate level? When we share our herb with each other, we must necessarily get up close, and on some level, share ourselves as persons. As the Herb changes our mind's perceptions, we see beauty in each other that may not have been seen before. As we take our sacrament in the Garden we feel a closeness and belonging to the earth. Some of us believe that this plant is a natural key to life's experiences, left here as a pure Gift from God for our well-being. It is also a key to each other, meant (we like to hope), to enhance our experience of community. It must also be mentioned, that usually, no one is left out of our circle. We accept anyone making honest effort to share our experience with us. Exceptions are very rare, and we maintain a high hope in looking for the best in each other.

One doctor doing a study on Marijuana use found that one of the effects on humans is increased perception. This might be possible as psychoactive action takes place in the brain, increasing the flow of data between brain cells. There is an accompanying effect of enhanced perception, possibly due to a less frantic thought pattern as the herb changes space and time. This may provide a new found ability to focus and perceive what were previously fleeting bits of information. This does enhance perception.

Imagine a church founded by Charles Darwin. The most important basis of this church would be "What does true science have to say about this?". As Marijuana has been found to be "the safest natural therapeutically active substance" on the planet, it would be determined that it is good to use whatever you need for your personal evolution.

If there is an entity called God, it would probably be safe to say that He/She has abilities, and knowledge, and wisdom far beyond our glaring limitations. We would have to be boorishly arrogant to believe that we know God made a mistake when He/She created Marijuana. We sheepishly commit our national will (as well as our children) to a criminal justice system which has gone Corporate so they could build ever more prisons to steal the lives of more nonviolent citizens.

So, we wandered from sacrament a little, but still, it all needed to be said. Sacrament is not a complicated subject. If good vibes and a willingness to understand are the results of sharing Herb, we should give thanks in our own ways for this pure gift from the Creator/God. We need not be ashamed to use what was obviously left as a plant suited to many uses. Indeed, those who are bigoted against us and our Herb, practice willful ignorance.

The generous act of sharing our sacrament with each other, along with the natural effects it provides the mind and spirit, creates the catalyst of personal experience leading to a greater understanding of God and each other. We are strengthened and uplifted to a higher state of being. It is right that we should give heartfelt thanksgiving for this amazing gift from God.

SO, WHAT ARE OUR MEETINGS LIKE?

One of our few church dogmas is to attempt "An all-denominational religious experience which will lead to a greater understanding of God". This is easier said than done, but it doesn't exclude anybody, so we have made it our goal to provide a comfortable and safe place for as many to speak in our church meeting as are willing. We haven't perfected this effort yet, but we are getting better at it as we go along.

Our position is that each person is a manifestation of valid truths, insights, and perceptions that must be shared if we are to experience spiritual growth toward maturity, and become and inclusive community. We are sometimes surprised about the caring and respect people have brought to the meeting. Out of this realization that each one (willingly or not), live out their lives, affected spiritually by one another, and by God who claims to touch all lives, we came to the conclusion that we are each Ministers as well, as living truth is manifested in our lives.

After we form our circle, one will generally extend a welcome to all who took time out of their lives to attend our meeting. Some meetings might share a prayer of blessing at the beginning. If an offering is taken, it might include money (not much in this crowd), tobacco offerings, stones, gifts, and memorabilia offered as sacrificial gifts to the church. If we get money, we usually feed some hungry people with it. We never have to go very far, as there are always hungry people in an outcast culture. Offerings are gifts of love, and we always find somebody to give these to. If your church group decides to get involved in certain ministries, you might need a cash-flow situation. The members who choose to serve their church and their Gods in this way, must develop ways of paying for certain chosen ministries. In the end, all members are needed to share the contributions, as only the members can be expected to support the church.

Spirit truths will come freely in our lives, although some truths might cost us dearly. But the idea that church should be free will be challenged during the winter, when it is particularly to have a warm building to meet in. Meeting rooms are available in many places, but they are not free, usually. We use parks for our summer meetings. Also, a meeting in a rented building might prevent sharing of Marijuana sacrament, from fear of, or responsibility to the landlord. Small groups can use members homes, but the larger the meeting, the more planning is required, and more money as well, as the church chooses its works.

So, our schedule is to call to a circle, welcome and prayers if offered, possibly passing the hat for the collection. Then we thankfully smoke up the herb to be shared, and others in the circle sometimes light up their own to share with a neighbor. These are our efforts to gather in one mind, and prepare the meeting to receive heart-songs and truths to be offered. The meeting generally lasts 1-1 1/2 hours and is only over after every soul has had the opportunity to speak as they need.

We only have two rules in our meetings, and we explain these during the welcome. The first rule is, that when someone is speaking in the circle, all must give the respect and dignity deserved by one who shares from their soul. Some of the most profound truths might come from a squeaky, tiny voice, that might be struggling to perform this offering. This usually contributes to respectful attention when the second person wants to speak. Never was a righteous church intended to provide only for those able to be loud or proud.

Our second rule is that we can't smoke up kids under 18 years old. As we struggle for legal recognition of our rights for adults, if authorities learn that we smoke up kids, they won't even hear our argument for adults. The age of 18 qualifies young Americans as old enough to die for their country. How much better is it to learn to live in Peace and Truth! We believe the age of 18 qualifies these folks to learn all there is to learn about God, spirituality, enlightened living, and all we can discern from responsible use of our Marijuana sacrament. Also, even as we deny under age kids from smoking it up in our meetings, we still want them to attend the meeting. Hopefully, some truth or action will enhance the quality and enjoyment of their lives, and hanging out in church will serve some meaning and purpose. As well, we're the only ones in town telling the truth in the War on Drugs.

We encourage every member to bring sacred writings to share at the meeting, for those who have little classical religious background, we love to hear Tribal Truths which are usually simple and basic, and gives us unheard of insights. We are pleased that we are able to provide a safe and respectful space to do these ministries, which help us grow in ways we might not even be aware of. Also, drums and other instruments are encouraged for before and after meeting. If anyone has interest in starting a meeting or a church, we will be glad to help in any way that we can.

MEMBERSHIP

We are now offering lifetime church membership cards to anyone wishing to claim religious protection from the law. As we said before, they are denying our intent, and then denying our protection. But one day, someone will win the one possesion case that will set us all free. There might be a judge out there somewhere who might give some recognition to our cause, if he/she believes we are an authentic church. This membership should provide religious protection for spiritual use of Marijuana, if we can ever find a kangaroo-free court. This church meets all legal obligations for a proper church, and we will continue our struggle for our freedom until we are righteously heard.

Although anyone may attend our meetings, and we will pride ourselves in being the only church in town that doesn't ask for money, we must find ways to fund our ministries, and legal action, which is really not cheap. So while risking resentment, we are asking a $ 5.00 fee for this lifetime membership card. We will need your chosen name, to be printed, and the card will then be individually laminated in plastic for many years of use. No lists of names will be kept for mailing or any other purposes. We understand that in some communities people take great risk exposing their name with a subject like this. But in the end, the truth will only be heard when we come out from the saftey of our closets and speak our truth in the public arena, the only place we are going to make any real difference in this evil war against us. See mail order section for ordering.

MINISTER ORDAINATION

We are commited to the position that every person on this planet has valid spiritual trtuth worth sharing. Each has his/her own lessons, insights, truths, as well as differing personal talents, which qualify each person as a sovereign entity and rare individual before God. We were never meant to be the same as each other. The wider our scope of learning is, means the greater our opportunities and abilities. So we practice that everyone is a Minister of God with truths and talents to share as we grow into each ministry (which means to serve).

We regard each person has valid truth they need to share, it is hard then to require some other claim to Ministry, as proof for approval by another human being, attempting to qualify with people something that is manifested in a life by God alone. We have no right to demand approval for acceptance as a Minister. Our piece of paper cannot give anyone approval by God, who makes his/her own decisions, without waiting for our approval. Also, if God has not manifested a leadership possibility for the Minister, our piece of paper will not give anything that God does not wish to bestow in this life. Our purpose in issuing these certificates is to provide legal support for your chosen ministry, and for legalizing marijuana.

We issue ordaination certificates in categories of Minister, Missionary, Deacon, Elder, and one day might send out a certificate for Goddess Of The Temple. We will need your name, desired title or position, and $ 20.00 for printing, handling, and contribution to our ministry. Your certificate will be a multi-colored, legal document that should last a lifetime. It will also be signed, dated, and laminated in a protective layer of plastic. We hope to offer a document our members can be proud of. If there is genuine desire for ministerial service, this paper can convey legal recognition by a legal church. Some possibilities are in jail/prison ministry, and hospital service. Many, including jails and prisons, will allow a Minister personal contact visits for counseling, etc., and may allow visitation at any time of day or night. It is an aggravating ministry, entering the belly of the BEAST to serve suffering people, but can be very rewarding to the willing minister.

The more common ministry is to focalize the sacred circle, ensuring equality for all members to express their own ministry. The minister is not necessarily responsible for delivering THE meaningful message of the week unless that person is perhaps gifted, with really importanat stuff to say. Most of our Ministers come to church to recieve healing, as well as give it. We try not to put unreasonable burdens on each other, striving instead, to promote personal freedom without guilt-ridden power trips. Laying down the law rarely works with us, although sometimes we need to hear it. Empowerment toward peace and freedom is the goal.
