A Broadway Experience

During the month of April 1997, I saw The Phantom of the Opera Broadway Musical for the first time. Thomas James O'Leary is currently the Phantom of the Opera on Broadway but on that particular day his understudy, Jeff Keller portrayed the role of the Phantom. His portrayal of the Phantom was very beautiful. I was sitting on the third floor of the theatre (Balcony) and I was so amazed at the amount of emotions he poured into the role and the moving performance he gave as the Phantom. His performance was absolutely fabulous!!

On October 2, 1997, I saw The Phantom of the Opera for the second time. Thomas James O'Leary played the part of the Phantom. His performance was magnificent. His voice was so powerful and emotional. At the end of the performance I felt compelled to give symapthy toward the character Phantom. It was such a brilliant performance given by Mr. O' Leary.

The second time watching the show, I sat in the first row-orchestra area. The experience of sitting in the first row was very different from sitting in the balcony area. When the chandelier came down at the end of the first act, my heart was pounding. The chandelier was so close, that I felt that I could just jump up and touch it. In another scene when the angel's statue came down and the Phantom was singing, I felt that the Phantom was singing to me because the statue was directly above my head. I just love the Phantom of the Opera!

The Phantom of the Opera, created by Andrew Lloyd Webber, is one of the best musicals on Broadway today. This musical is based on the novel of Gaston Leroux, published in 1911.

I saw Thomas James O'Leary on October 14, not long after you,and I sat in the second row!!! That was my first and only time to experience the magic of the Phantom, but it certainly won't be my last--I cannot wait to come back to NYC to see it again. Yes, the second row was AMAZING. The chandelier and the angel were most exciting sitting where we did. I nearly died when TJO came out of that angel, because I did not know what was going to happen--I did know about the chandelier falling, but the woman sitting next to me DIDN'T!! HA! LOL! She screamed! It was kinda funny. Anyway, I thought Thomas was so excellent, so magical, just incredible as the Phantom. I saw Adrienne as Christine and they had such electric chemistry together.

Since that was my first time to see the show, I have to say that the MOST exciting part of the show for me was during "Angel of Music" when Thomas J. O'Leary appeared in the mirror--I gasped in total awe of the magic of that moment!! When he sang "Look at your face in the mirror, I am there inside!" the music swells and there he is, the audience's first time to actually see the Phantom, I got chills and still do EVERY time I listen to that part on the CD!! It was a wonderful, memorable moment that I will never forget!! POTO is definitely the best show ever. I will see it many more times.
