The Mummy and coffin of Ramesses VI

20th Dynasty

Length of Coffin : 1.98 metres

Height of coffin : 0.60 metres

The coffin originally dates to the 18th Dynasty (made for a High Priest during the reign of Tuthmosis III). The face of the coffin had been broken by tomb robbers.

The body had suffered at the hands of tomb robbers - the head has been damaged by axe cuts and the right hand of the mummy is missing. The wrappings of the mummy were quite a mess - included within the wrappings were some of the broken pieces of the mummy's head, but also the right hand of a woman and the mutilated right hand and forearm of another man.

It is thought that Ramesses VI was middle aged when he died.
