The Main Question: inclusiveforum is an effort to promote a discussion of alternative nonlethal methods of defending people against crime, unwanted pregnancy, or military attack.
Some methods have already been developed and used, such as mace or pepper spray for personal protection; antiballistic missles and The Strategic Defense Initiative ("Starwars") for national defense by destroying incoming missles, rather than killing people; and efforts to get convicts to pay the monetary costs of crime control via profit making prisons can reduce the financial incentive for the death penalty. A company in Houston, named Cryogenic Solutions was trying to develop technology for nonlethal extraction of embryos from pregnant women who aren't ready to have children; then freezing the embryos until their mothers are ready to continue the pregnancy. (Cryogenic Solutions seems to be concentrating on other projects now; so perhaps the effort didn't fare too well . . . but perhaps it can be taken up by others. And perhaps it has.
The FETAL TRANSPLANT FOUNDATION is now working to help find nonlethal methods of terminating pregnancies. A possible stumbling block to discuss : prolife groups have recently been citing studies alleging a link between abortion and breast cancer. If, indeed, early termination of pregnancy increases the risk of breast cancer up to 8 times normal, then "Houston, we have a problem!" If you know of any websites that address this issue please leave links in the guestbook to further information, pro or con, regarding the alleged ABC link. )
inclusiveforum asks for your input into the question of how much should society invest in such nonlethal solutions to problems currently addressed by means that destroy lives. How much obligation do we have to avoid killing others when we defend ourselves?
