Born from their love of
traditional rock and roll and harboring an intolerance
for passing fads, INNER SOUL refuses to succumb to pressure of doing
what's "IN" for the moment.
"We're not concerned with the FLAVOR OF THE WEEK" Says Bassist, Ray Powers with no reservation whatsoever. "Good songs never go out of style" quips Guitarist, Jeff Michaels, Cofounder of INNER SOUL. INNER SOUL got its start in the summer of 1994 when Brooklyn-born bassist Ray Powers coerced his longtime friend, collaborator and former bandmate, Jeff Michaels to leave his situation and help form the band the two had always envisioned. The Jersey City based guitarist didn't need much persuasion. Jeff was looking for something more, as well. Michaels took Powers up on his offer and immediately began writing new original material. Jeanine Tolve was originally brought in to do background vocals on the band's recordings and, maybe live shows. However, as Jeff and Ray auditioned close to a hundred singers, none were as good as Jeanine: none were even close. Tolve, already a veteran of the stage, became INNER Soul's lead vocalist. After going through a list of "Drummer Available" ads and listening to countless audition tapes for weeks on end, Jeanine recalled a contact she had from a few years back. Steven D. Riker from West Orange, NJ landed the job at the audition. Four People; Four Backgrounds; One Direction. INNER SOUL is rock and roll ... Without Compromise!
