The 1950's
were good times in the Gateway City: Gas Light Square was a mecca for many
soon to become stars, comics, singers, and musicians. The "Glass Bar" provided
a show case for touring jazz musicians. Midtown had the show places, the
after hours venues for jamming and boozing: From Bird to Frankie Carle at the West End
Waiters. Tuesday night dancing was available at the Castle and Tune Town ballrooms on
Olive; The Casa Loma on the Southside. It was the best of jazz times in the Midwest!
