The Howth light is located on the on the northern shore of Howth Head.

The keeper's quarters in the tower were very cramped, so a separate single-story residence was built in 1821. A second story added to accommodate an extra keeper in 1856.

Howth Harbour was modernized between 1978 and 1983, when the former lighthouse was decommissioned. In 1982 a modern tower built at the end of the East Pier.
