History:

Tarbert Lighthouse is a rock based station located between Little Samphire Island and Scattery Island near the River Shannon.

It was designed by George Halpin (Snr) and built by the Ballast Board between 1833- 34. The light was first lit in November 1834 and classed as a third order establishment.

Today it is maintained by Shannon Estuary Ports.
