Let's    Get    Funky!!!

Welcome to the Maceo Parker Home Page (unofficial). This has been a long time coming. I've looked through the web, and realized that there just wasn't enough resources on such a great musician. This site will always be under construction, and your suggestions are more than welcome. Well, let me first tell you a little about myself. You probably don't want to hear it, but it's my site so here goes:-) Originally from, Louisianna, I am currently a sophomore attending East Carolina University. I am an aspiring sax player. I've played all the members of the family, including the Bass. I've yet to see a contra, but I'm waiting. I don't have time for many hobbies, but I do enjoy just about everything. I first heard Maceo play when I was a junior in high school. I received a cassette of "Southern Exposure". I liked it, but didn't really think too much more about it. Then when I was a senior, I took a lesson from a guy who was about to graduate from ECU. The first thing he did was to have me transcribe a song off a cd of his; "Southern Exposure"(small world). Suddenly, I heard the music differently. I heard this guy, and ordinary man, play with such power and soul that I immediatly fell in love. I strived for that sound. It was just a wall of elegant force. I then started looking for more of him. I have now aquired all the the cds with Maceo's name on the cover. When I found out that he was from Kinston, NC, I became even more inveloped. See, my school is only 20 minutes from there. I am longing for the day when he pays us a visit. I have strayed from him a bit now, going into more traditional jazz, but I still get chills when I put on one of his recordings. I think my favorite would have to be Mo'Roots. I enjoy the melodic solos he and the other two JB's present. Of course, this takes nothing away from "Life of Planet Groove". This performance is just two nights worth of serious pocket. Well, I guess I should get into the heart of this site, Mr. Parker. STAY TUNED MORE TO COME.
