AN INRODUCTION OF JANMEJA SINGH AS IT APPEARED IN

JANMEJA SINGH JOHL is an artist with a difference. When nobody in Ludhiana thought of Photography as an art,He was roaming Punjab and documenting its' cultural and social images on transparencies and negative and that too in color. Janmeja did his Diploma in Advanced Electronics from Columbus ,Ohio, USA way back in 1972 and then joined PAU . During this period Johl held Ludhiana's First One man Show of Art Photography. From then onwards it is all upward journey. Till 1997 he has held more than 200 Solo Exhibitions in Punjab, Indian states, USA, CANADA, EUROPE, MIDDLE EAST, LEBANON, SINGAPORE , MALAYSIA etc. . Etc in person. There is not even a single worth Punjabi Publication which has not printed Janmeja's work on Front Page. He writes and sends Photographs to All the major Papers of India. . He has contributed to Jansatta uninterruptedly for full one year in a unique way by Photographically illustrating three novels. Johl writes in English too and more of his writings are either historical or satirical. Ludhiana news line has published many of his articles. In Photography He is master of Daylight Portraits. He thinks that everybody is born as a beautiful creation of GOD. All one has to do is find that angle, GOD has gifted him with this eyeview.
Janmeja is not merely doing Photography, He knows ins and out of Filming too. Johl is the first person to make Educational Film 'RIVER OF HONEY' for PAU. Many of his rare Cultural shots have been used by Doordarshan, though unofficially. Janmeja is always up-to-date with Technology. He is also the first person to have Multimedia in North India. With this he has made Punjabi Teaching Cartoons for children. Since there was a great shortage of computer hardware and software support in Punjab, Johl learned these skills himself. It went so fine that Even Indian Army's Training Command's selected officers took training from him and later he imparted more training at one of their units. Janmeja has been a regular guest Lecturer to Journalism and extension Students of Guru Nanak Dev University, Punjabi University and many times at PAU.
So far Johl has been doing all this with commitment toward society without any real benefits. Although shy by nature he is strong willed and clear hearted. He has penned two Poetry books, 'Mainoo muaf kari' and 'Akash tha Kaidi" his third poetry book and a Photography book is already under production. His first Photo catalogue of Punjabi Heritage is also now exhausted.
