Golden children of India

Photos by Jim Emerson

I made my first trip to India in 1996 and was naturally overwhelmed (and intoxicated) by the rush of intense sensations swirling around me.  Colors, sounds, tastes, aromas -- all seemed vibrantly heightened.

I particularly loved the children we met, mostly in passing. Not only were they radiantly beautiful kids, but many of them, even those who were begging and possibly hungry, were nevertheless bright-eyed, exuberant, and playful -- eager to shake hands and get their pictures taken for good luck (or rupees). I think of these kids now: Where are they?  What are their lives like? I hope that this site, available to be seen all over the world, will somehow bring them the best of luck.
