Note on Ads:
None of the ads on this site are mine. I do not sell ads, they are all from Tripod. I do not endorse any of the products or companies advertising here, I have no control over the ads that are here. Take all of them with a user beware attitude- some may be fine, some are just a waste of time and/or money, and some can be outright harmful. (Removed to avoid lawsuit possibilities- just let me say- be careful of anything, especially health related claims, that seem to go strongly against recognized scientific norms).

June 4, 2006, 1AM:
I am currently in the process of updating and slightly redesigning this site so please come back often.

Coming Soon:

Jeff Grim's Mental Health and Education Reference Site

What this site can do for you

This site was made because I originally looked at graduate school options in mental health and education. These related fields have many options so I wanted to put together a site that had information and links to most options within the fields. There are many books and sites out there but they are usually limited to only one subfield, such as psychology, but someone looking into psychology could very easily want information about social work and psychiatry as well. Since there are several options I wanted a space that puts them all together without the need to spend hours on websearches (I've done that for you) and without buying a whole bookshelf full of books (been there, done that- it gets expensive).

Don't forget to check the links to other areas other than the one you may be planning to study, the organizations and associations may be useful since all these areas are related.

Is this site only useful if you are looking at graduate level study?

No. You may have noticed that it seems geared mainly to graduate programs, this is true. To have much independence in these fields requires a graduate degree. Most states require a doctorate to be licensed as a psychologist, and all require at least a masters (one can work at a low level of responsiblity with a BA or less). Many states now require teachers to eventually earn a masters degree (though it is possible to enter the profession with a BA). Psychiatry obviously requires a medical degree. However, it is possible to enter these fields with less than a masters or doctorate and this page can be useful if you never plan to enter graduate school.

If you plan to teach, anything in the education section will be just as useful for those not going to graduate school. The links to programs will take you to information on BA programs just as it will take you to graduate programs. The same situation is true in the social work section as many social workers are trained at the bachelors (BSW) level, though for the highest pay and autonomy the field requires a masters (MSW). For many types of counseling a graduate degree isn't needed. While the section concentrates on graduate study, you can find BA level information for Music Therapy programs and Addiction Therapy programs as well as AA level Addiction Therapy information. Nursing can be done with a BA or, sometimes, even an AA. Also, in addition to the links to lists of programs I have provided links to professional organizations and links to other useful sites in each section, so all sections will be useful for students contemplating BA or AA level study only. In addition you can visit this link for non-graduate school mental health and education options.
