Those special animals on the Bean Farm establish the First Animal Republic, complete with flags and election campaigns. Their freedom is threatened, though, when a wily Washington woodpecker becomes dictator, and its up to Freddy to save the farm for democracy.

Originally published by Knopf in 1939 under the title "Wiggins for President", the name was changed to "Freddy the Politician" in 1948.
