Kay
Scarpetta Series
Kay is a forensic pathologist. Patricia Cornwell has
developed a main character described by some as hard-boiled. She
must be in her profession of examining the dead and determining
the cause of death. The techniques of forensics are not pretty
and the series is not for the squeemish. She also has a married
lover. If you object to these, don't even start the series. If
you don't object and enjoy the details of intricate forensic work
(realistically presented, but not, in my opinion, to titillate)
the series has promise.
I suggest, start at the beginning.
(Due to the complexity of record keeping and adding titles
only two titles and the last two are on this page. More titles
will be appearing in the future.)

Point
of Origin (1998)
Just as the trial for Lucy's ex-lesbian lover/psychopath
killer is coming up, Kay receives a letter mailed from the Asylum
where she is incarcerated. Regardless of the threat the letter
implies, Kay and Lucy continue their work in their chosen
specialized fields. Lucy, of course, is no longer employed by the
FBI. However, she is now employed by a department which still
requires Kays' speciality of forensics. Lucy and Kay are pulled
together to work on a case involving a fire ... and murder.
Somehow, they must solve the case and find the Point of Origin,
the term used to designate the origin of a fire. According to all
the rules, the fire just doesn't add up ... then Lucy's ex-lover
escapes the asylum. Kay starts to unravel the case even as the
threat from the past stalks her and her loved ones.
Tragedy and sorrow awaits Kay as the psychopath works her
horrific magic.

Patricia Cornwell has added another heroine to her
repertoire. Hammer was introduced in Hornet's Nest in 1997. Her
