Montazuma Burt was born about 1842 in Missouri to William and Cinthya Burt. He was a farmer and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enrolled in the Confederate Army, but after he was captured by the Yankees, he was conscripted into the U.S. Army in lieu of prison camp.
