The following message was posted on the NGS Genealogy Echo to Gene Welch on 30 Dec 1996:
Gene --
I don't know if we have corresponded before but I suspect so. The book
referenced is:
Welsh Family History, Descendants of George & Nancy Cannon Welsh, 1976
[on cover] & "The Welsh Family from the Revolution to the Bicentennial,
1776-1976", compiled by Mrs.Verne Chamberlin (Georgiana Welsh),
8100 West Lincoln Way, Wooster, OH 44691 [on title page]
She references an earlier work on the family of George & Nancy WELSH,
published in 1910, by Chalmers Wallace Hutchison, which she incorporated,
expanded, corrected, & added to with her own research. The antecedents
of this couple are sketchy but touched on in the introduction of her
work. The line in my WELSH file looks something like this:

Mary VANDENBARK (1807-1872)
It was Mrs.Chamberlin's belief that Robert WELSH Sr may have been the son
of James WELCH, b.ca.1700, SC, who removed to PA in ca.1729 & that this
James WELCH was the son of an emigrant Scotch-Irish Presbyterian named WELSH
or WALSH that settled in the Carolina Colony in the latter part of the 17th
Century. Afraid that her research was not able to be any more specific.
Mrs.Chamberlin obtained membership in DAR on basis of George WELSH's service
in RW. She stated that in 1973 4 DAR chapters & some 50 descendants
participated in ceremonies to erect a new tombstone on his grave, marking
him as a RW Veteran. I don't know if this lady is still living or not. My
sister bought the book from her about 1985 & I subsequently made a copy of it.
Hope this material proves useful,
Regards, Jerry
