Lesson 5 & 6

Lesson 5

Writing a Spell/Ritual

Always decide specifically what you want, (exactly). Be careful of what you want. You may not always get exactly what you expect or want. Also be warned of the Law of Three, for what you do may come back on you.

Next you should decide what ingredients would be most effective in bringing your magickal needs. Common items to choose include: candles, herbs, oils, incense, stones, and salts.

Some candles are chose for their color and others for their scent. Aromatherapy is also used in magick to trigger an emotion needed for magick. Sandalwood and sage are good scents to burn. This color guide is my personal favorite.

Colors for Magick

white: purfication, truth, universal energy

black: reversal spells, banishing, purifying negativity

red: courage, passion, strength, vitality

pink: love, happiness, reconciliation, honor

orange: legal matters, good luck, stimulation

brown: home, health, nature/animal magick

yellow: learning, creativity, openess, confidence

green: prosperity, fertility, healing, luck

blue: spiritual, health, patience, healing, calming

purple: link to higher plane, intuition, progress

silver: Goddess energy, visions, intuition

gold: God energy, wealth, longevity

Herb Magick

Herbs or flowers may also be used to further bring power to your spell. Simply pick out an herb or combination of herbs that magickally correspond to your spell. Place them in a circle around the candle or if you make your own you can add a few pinches to the wax. Here is a brief guide to get you started:

Love -allspice, apple, catnip, lemon verbena

Healing -ginger, willow, thistle, rosemary

Money -cinnamon, parsley

Protection-bay leaves, chamomile, chives, coriander

Purifying -basil, cayenne, pine

Luck -caraway, oak, saffron

Marriage -marjoram

Divination-mugwort, sandalwood, juniper, wormwood

You can use any combination of materials. The best materials to use are ones that you already have. It's the energy you put into the spell that really counts. If you have a bunch of all the right materials and no concentration, focus, or direction it still wouldn't work.

Usually it is the materials that aid the focus, the atmosphere that aids the concentration, and the words that aid the direction. The atmosphere can be obtained with just incense and a candle. The words are up to you. Do you prefer to chant? A simple yet powerful chant works best. Do you prefer to give an invocation? Write something that invokes an emotion within and appeals to the spirit without. It's really up to you and what works best for you. I highly recommend keeping notes of what you write and what you do and if it works.

Recipe for Ritual Bath Salts

Please feel free to adjust this recipe to your liking.

1 cup (part) rock salt or course salt

1/2 cup epsom salt

1 tablespoon of sea salt

1 tsp any base oil, I prefer almond oil

favorite fragrance or essential oil food coloring

Please always check the labels for hazardous warnings of certain oils. Mix only a few drops of essential oil to the base oil. Combine salt in a bowl with the oils. Mix well then have fun coloring the bath salt. The magickal part of this recipe comes with the stirring. When you are stirring the salts visualize your intent. If the bath salt will be for cleansing and purification, visualize it cleansing your body from all negative energies. Also chanting may help to properly charge the salts as well.

Preparation for Spells/Rituals

Before the actual spell/ritual is performed, you should take time to meditate or have a Ritual Bath. The purpose of this is to eliminate negative energies from your magickal workings and to better focus your mind towards the subject at hand. If you will be having a Ritual Bath you may want to add something to your water: bath salt, oils, flowers, herbs, etc. in corresponding scent to your spell/ritual. For example, if you are doing a love spell, taking a bath in rose pedals or rose oil will help to set the mood.

Casting the Spell/Ritual

1) Set up your altar with everything you have chosen for the spell. If you do not have an altar you can arrange it in a circle on your floor.

2) Draw your circle- walk around the perimeter to ensure enough space- physically take your athame, wand, or sword and carefully draw your circle- light some sage, incense, or other herb of choice and go along the circle, purifying with the smoke.

3) Light your candles.

4) Call the elementals, deities, or other spirits that you would like present (everyone is unique).

5) State your purpose or perform your spell that you have prepared.

6) Raise the energy by chanting, singing, dancing, meditating, etc.-this is a very important step. Be sure to raise enough energy or the spell will be short lived.

7) Directing the energy by visualizing your want or need- this is the fuel behind your spell, without it the energy will not know where to go. Visualize and practice holding an object in your mind to become better at this.

8) Releasing the energy- this must be done. The best way to do this is to forget about the spell and whatever the spell was regarding.

9) Thank the spirits individually that you had invited.

10) Discard all used wax and herbs that have been empowered for this spells use.

I recommend beginners use this format. It will help to develop your spell casting abilities and to develop your own techniques.

Lesson 6

Elements

The elements are present everywhere and are the basics to sustain life on this planet. However, the elements are even more than that. They are our teachers that guide us on our magickal journey and that which has been directly created by the hand of the Goddess and God. Thus we must learn how to correctly work with the elements and the elemental spirits who resonate within.

Earth is that of the cold fierce winter but when combined with the other elements creates green lush forests, plants, and food. For this reason Earth governs over such magick as fertility, abundance, prosperity, and stability. The direction of this element is placed in the North and is represented in circle by the color green. Items associated with Earth include stones, salt, pentagram, and cords. The elemental spirits of Earth are gnomes, which can be beneficial to contact if you are seeking money.

Chakras

There are seven points on the body in which psychic energy flows from. These points are essential to maintain the spiritual, physical, and mental health of the body. Each chakra has a colored light associated with it and should be used in proper visualization.

The first chakra is called the base or root chakra, which is located at the base of the spine. The ability to reproduce and love is in its domain.

The second chakra is called the spleen chakra located between the genitals and navel. It governs over the lower digestive tract, bladder, pancreas, and basic emotions as well as creativity.

The third chakra is called the solar plexus and is located just below the breast bone. This area is in control of the upper digestive tract, astral projection, and the powers of the mind.

The fourth chakra is called the heart chakra, located in the center of the chest. This point is in charge of circulatory function, healing, compassion, and love.

The fifth chakra is the throat chakra located near the lower cervical vertebrae. It is associated with lungs, communication, thyroid, and telepathy.

The sixth chakra is called the third-eye chakra, found in the center of the forehead. Deals with intuition, immune system, eyes, ears, and spiritual visions.

The seventh chakra is the crown chakra located at the top of the head. This is the link of your spiritual energies and is essential to the flow of energy within your body.

Try This: You must keep your chakras clear of blockages in order to maintain health on all levels. If you have about 20-30 minutes, give this a try. Sit down on the floor and relax to completely clear your mind of thoughts of the day and stresses of the world. When you're focused begin at the base chakra. Visualize a beam of red light coming from your chakra. Feel it flowing completely for a few moments. Now see your spleen chakra open to reveal a beam of orange light. Again feel it flowing for a few moments before going on to the next. Then allow your minds eye to see yellow light from your solar plexus. Continue with a green light from your heart chakra, a blue light from your throat chakra, an indigo light from your third-eye chakra, and a violet colored beam from your crown. When you have done this enough to where you feel completely unblocked then you must reverse the process.

Close each chakra starting with the crown down to the base. If they are not closed they may become blocked or you may become susceptible to illness.

Psychic Attack

What is psychic attack?

The definition of this quite broad, but bear with me. As we talked about earlier in lesson 1, negative thoughts can attract negative things. These things can be spirits or entities of a negative nature, people intentionally trying to hurt you, or emotions from another person thinking badly about you. Psychic attack can be anything. The key word here would be of an "odd" nature. If you out of no where are experiencing sickness, illness, or pain that is unexplainable that could be psychic attack. If you have encountered an extreme case of bad luck, that too can be psychic attack. There are other ways you could be attacked as well. Including nightmares, odor, depression, and even unexplainable anger. The problem lies with being able to tell the difference.

Beginners in magick are more prone to psychic attack than others practicing the craft. There are several reasons for this. First, many beginners don't realize how or why they should protect themselves. You can protect yourself by wearing consecrated jewelry. The best for this of course would be the pentagram. However if you can't walk around your town adorning a pentagram then you could choose another piece of jewelry. This could be as simple as a stone on a chain, a silver ring, or any other piece of jewelry that doesn't already serve a purpose (i.e., a wedding band). You can use the consecrating ritual from Lesson 4 or you can write your own as long as you add the specific words "to protect from ALL unwanted energy." It is important to mention that when you are participating in a spell or ritual, you must cast the circle of protection. This is done because when you are sending out energy you're more likely to be attacked. When you are working with energy it is sensed by spirits and other entities near by.

Second, new members of the Craft mostly have at least a little fear if not a lot. Bringing fear into magick is a magnet to psychic attack.

The best way to deal with psychic attack is don't ignore it, but don't fear it. If you fear it, the attack will only get worse and will not go away. Meditation and rituals will help get rid of the attack. Also be sure to do this often so that it will be completely gone. Wear your protective jewelry and focus on a shield around your aura. Whatever you do, do not get paranoid. That's the worse thing you could do.
