Contact is really a great movie. It's about this scientist, who has this dream of being able to contact extra-terrestrial beings. Of course, everyone didn't really take the idea too seriously. And they were pretty much amused at the idea. But Dr. Eleanor Arroway (Jodie Foster), a scientist determined to prove something to the world, never wavered. I liked the part when she presented her idea to the um... it was the government I think and they said her presentation displayed more of science-fiction than science. And she blew up, pointing out that back in the past, a machine which you can ride and go flying around in the sky... and airplane, was science fiction, etc. That was a strong point.

  I totally loved everything about this movie! The idea, the special effects, the cast, everything!!! But most of all, I loved the depth of the story. I believe in God, and I can't help wondering (and being overwhelmed too whenever I have time to think about it) how big the universe is. I mean, the Earth is already humongous, and I can't imagine how big the solar system is. What more of the galaxies made up of even more solar systems? It seems pretty funny to me that in a creation as big as that, we'd be the only ones living in it, don't you think? And that concept is only one of the many things I really enjoyed about the movie.

  I was also totally touched with the mutual love between Ellie [Eleanor Arroway] (Jodie Foster) and Palmer (Matthew McConaughey), a well-respected theologian. How they, as two persons, though having different beliefs, Ellie always looking for proofs, and Palmer being contented with having strong faith, were actually headed towards the same goal... the truth. The truth of what life is all about. And, it was also about letting go of someone you really love, to sacrifice something, for the sake of that truth.

  I'm a fan of Star Wars and everything, and I love science fiction, and though this movie was a really big thing to everyone, I didn't exactly like the story all that much. It was okay, but it wasn't "wow". Of course, everything else, the special effects and the costumes and make-up and the imagination itself were really cool. But the essence of the story wasn't good enough. But some lines were nice. Some lines gave you something to think about like when Yoda said: "Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to Anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering". And when you think about, that kinda applies to real life.

  There's one thing I can say about "Star Wars", "The Empire Strikes Back" and "The Return of the Jedi"... they were all great. Sure, the technology is more advanced now so there were more special effects in Episode I, but the plot and stories in these movies were much, much better. There were funny parts, and sad/touching parts. Mystery, and romance. And though simple, it was really wonderful. You'd be surprised. Even non-science-fiction fans would love watching this trilogy.
