JVP AGAINST PA CONNSPIRACY OF NEW CONSTITUTION

The People’s Liberation Front(JVP) held a protest against the PA govt’s secret move to superimpose the new constitution on the people of Sri Lanka. The govt did not reveal the content until the political arena got heated when the copies of the constitution was revealed unofficially. The JVP called for a protest march folowed by a mass demonstration. On the 3rd of August about eleven thousand gathered within the two days of notice to protest against presenting the so called new constitution at the parliament.

The protest march commenced at Rajagiriya, near the Office of Elections Commissioner. The Police objected at the front and the party leaders pointed out that they are engaging in a peaceful demonstration which is a right of each and every citizen. So the Police Officers wanted to know whether there are possibilities of the of riot development. But the JVP leaders told them that the JVP do not engage in riots and they have proved their political discipline during the recent elections. However the police blockades were removed several times owing to the fact that the marchers were peacefully shouting slogans and they had no intention to drive their struggle into riots. But the slogans used in the demonstration were powerful enough to draw attention of the people around and the Policemen too had no intentions to object the struggle for the safe living in a single state as Sri Lanka. The march was forced to stop at the Parliament drive and the protesters sat on the road to cry out slogans.

NO NO NEVER NEVER
WE DON’T LET THIS LAND DIVIDED !

NO ! TO THE CONSTITUTION
THAT DIVIDE THE SINHALA, TAMIL, MUSLIM
COMMUNITIES

Then the General Secretary and Propaganda Secretary of JVP addressed the crowd. The party leaders pointed out that the new constitution is not aimed at unifying the Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim people of Sri Lanka. Instead it is a result of Sri Lankan govt’s subjugation to imperialist forces in dividing the country on the basis of nationality, religion or such cultural identities. The JVP do never let anybody to divide the communities living in Sri Lanka. Unless it does not aim the unity, harmony and solving actual socio-economic problems of Sri Lankans, no constitution can solve the National Question. The party leaders further challenged the govt to “Solve the problems developed in Sri Lanka or go home!

The demonstration was held from 9.30 to 11.00am and the crowd were peacefully dispersed.
