Part two It had all started on his 18th birthday. Tommy Oliver walked up to the Angel Grove Juice Bar. It was his birthday, but no one had remembered. He was used to being slighted on his birthday. He was a foster child, living with foster parents that didn't really want him around. he wouldn't be too surprised if he went home and found that his bags had been packed. "Happy birthday Tommy," a tall blond girl-woman walked up to him, she kissed him gently on the lips. This was Katherine, also known as Kat, they had dated for a few months. . "Thank you Kat," he put his arms around her, he should be happy with her, but he still thought of Kimberly, his former girlfriend. "Is your family doing anything for your birthday?" Kat asked, she had a slight Australian accent. "They were busy tonight...." "Too busy for you? I can't believe it!" Nice as Kat was, she came from a happy nuclear family, she couldn't imagine how it was like to be a foster child. "I really don't want to talk about this," "I'm sorry I brought it up," She pulled away from him, and took his hand. "Why don't I buy you a juice?" He looked her over for a moment. Kat was nice, she could help him get over this mood. He nodded, "All right," Tommy followed her inside, the juice bar had been decorated and most of his friends were there. "Surprise!" the entire room yelled. Then they began to sing Happy Birthday to him. Kat's arm slipped around Tommy's waist. He put his arm around her shoulders. He whispered into her ear. "Did you arrange all this?" "Are you surprised?" She asked, there was a tentativeness to her voice. "Of course I am! I can't believe you would do this for me!" "I love you Tommy," was all she said. Tommy didn't tell her he loved her back, because truthfully, he didn't, instead her kissed her. Adam came up to him, he was seventeen, and a high school senior, he was dressed in dark green, his black hair was slightly curled. He was a good friend of Tommy's and a fellow Power Ranger. Tanya was holding his arm, she was an attractive African- American girl-woman. Adam and Tanya had become a couple at about the same time Tommy and Kat had. "How does it feel to be nineteen?" "Great!" Tommy plastered on a smile. Tanya kissed him gently on the cheek. "I hope today is happy for you." "It is now that my friends are here," Tommy said, kissing Tanya back. * * * Tommy sat in the holding cell, it was eight by eight feet. He wasn't sure how long he had been here, he could feel the sun go up, then set again, and the familiar feeling of hunger began to overcome him. The police hadn't come back to him, it was almost as if they had forgotten about him. He knew that no one believed him about being a vampire. That he could understand, he wouldn't believe a tale about a vampire before now. Before now, before he became a monster, before the hunger. He could feel the presence of a vampire near by, it terrified him. He looked towards the vampire. It was the man who had watched him the night before. He was about the same hight as Tommy, with longish sandy hair, and a stubble of a beard, he was dressed entirely in black. He in a way reminded him of Billy. The man walked up to the uniformed cop that was watching him. "I want to talk to him alone, why don't you take a coffee break," The cop left, leaving Tommy alone with the vampire, who walked to the door of the cell, he pulled out a key, and opened the door. He walked in, then locked the door behind him. "You are Tommy Oliver?" Tommy looked up to him. "Yes, I am. What do you want with me?" "You caused the vampire community a lot of trouble," He said softly. "Why should I care?" "You'll care when the enforcers come after you," There was a bit of menace in the man's voice. "Why should I care about the police?" "The vampire enforcers," The man said. "Didn't your master ever tell you about them?" "My master?" "The person who crossed you over," Tommy didn't recognize the term. "What's that?" "Turned you into a vampire," The man said harshly. "Oh, her....." "What did she teach you?" He said getting closer to him. "I haven't seen her since she bit me," Tommy got up and walked to the other end of the cell. "When I woke, I hungered," "You never saw the woman again?" he persisted. "Never," He couldn't keep the pain out of his voice. He couldn't help remembering, about becoming a vampire. *** Later on, the party was still going, but Tommy finally found some time alone. He sat at a table near the back, drinking juice, wishing it was something stronger. The lights of the bar had been turned down low, and people were dancing. He watched the couples dancing on the dance floor. Kat was dancing with his older brother David who had arrived at the party only a few minutes before. David was interested in Kat, and even though she tried to hid it, he knew that Kat liked David too. For some reason, it didn't make Tommy jelious. If Kat left him for his brother, he could be glad for her. Tommy's best friend Billy walked over to the table and sat down. Billy was also nineteen, but for some reason always seemed older and wiser to Tommy. Billy was a few inches shorter then Tommy, he had short blondish-brown hair, he was wearing a dark turtleneck and jeans. "What happened to Katherine?" "She's dancing with David," Billy was sitting close to Tommy-almost too close. Billy glanced out at the floor. "It doesn't bother you?" "Why should it?" His mind was on Kimberly, his former girlfriend. He knew that it was wrong, but he still loved her. "Something must be wrong, you usually don't sulk like this unless something's bothering you," There was a long pause between them. "Your thinking about last years party," Tommy looked up to him. "Why do you think that?" "I know you," Billy shrugged. "Last years party was exceptional and it was thrown by Kimberly. Your missing her." "I'm happy that she's going to the global games," He lied. "Has she called you yet?" "Why would she call me?" "It's your birthday..." "You know when she broke up with me, she said no more contact." He sighed "Perhaps it's better this way." "Do you really think that?" Tommy didn't answer, instead he looked back out to the dance floor. He couldn't remember when he found out that Billy was atracted to him. Just one day knew. He never felt unconfortable around his friend. Billy had asked him about starting a relationship once, and when Tommy told him he wasn't intrested, he had droped the subject. Then he saw her, for a moment, he thought it was Kimberly. This girl had the same small build as Kim, the same color hair as her. she was dressed in a tight black leather miniskirt and a tight shirt. She could have been Kimberly's sister. "Whose that?" Tommy asked Billy. "Whose who?" Billy looked towards the floor, but the girl had disappeared. "I think I must have been seeing things," Tommy said. "Have you given any more thought to your living situation? " Billy asked changing the subject. "I don't think my foster parents really want me staying around much longer." "Have they said anything?" "Not directly, but they've dropped hints." "Your still welcome at my parents house." Billy offered. "If I get kicked out, I'll move in. but only until next semester starts," "Agreed, Billy said. Tommy turned to Billy, "Thanks for being a friend, you've always been there for me." "You'd do the same for me," was all that Billy said. Before Billy could say anything else, Tanya walked to the table and asked Billy to dance. Billy looked at Tommy, who nodded. Billy followed Tanya to the dance floor. A few moments passed, and the girl he had seen earlier came over to him. "I wanted to wish you happy birthday." "Are you new here?" He asked. "I don't think I've ever met you before." "Yes, I'm new," the girl had a slight accent. "Would you like to dance?" This girl looked so much like Kimberly, that he realized that if he didn't try very hard, he could pretend that she was his ex-girlfriend. He followed her onto the dance floor. It wouldn't hurt to pretend, after all, it was his birthday. "My name's Tommy, what's yours?" "Call me Jacqueline," She smiled. "Jaqueline," he echoed. She looked into his eyes, and soon he found himself agreeing to go with her. He didn't think of Kat. He didn't feel completely in control of himself. She pulled him to the alleyway, kissing him, pushing him against the wall. He kissed her passionately, eagerly. She unfastened the buttons on his shirt, in a very strange voice she said. "Happy death day Tommy." Then he saw her fangs, she bit him, tearing at his throat. It hurt, he had never had anything hurt like that before in his life. Then as she began to drink, the pain was replaced by pleasure, and slowly, everything went black.
